SQ Differences Between Aries Variants
I think that using tweaky things like the Regen after a digital source is a joke personally... Get the Aries LE at least, and you won't need a Regen anymore. Fix the real problem.
Should I update Ayre QB9 dac
I liked the Codex with PCM, but DSD didn't sound very good through it. Not sure how the QB-9 DSD handles DSD, but maybe this is one reason people prefer it?
Preamp popping!
10-30 seconds was the kicker.... That and no tube preamp I have ever owned popped at start up.
Mogami wire quality?
Mogami is great stuff, and very high in the performance for money. I would say that if you cannot budget around $1K for some interconnects, you won't do much if any better than Mogami. IMO, YMMV....It does get better though. Zenwave Audio makes ca...
Regarding Joseph Audio Pulsar Loudspeakers
The Pulsar's are one of if not the best stand mount speakers on this planet IMO. They are the only ones I have heard that pull off the image scale of a larger floor speaker. Now they don’t have the visceral impact and low bass of a full range loud...
Is it a OK to leave tube pre-amps powede up 24/7
I follow the on once, off once, per day.
Has anyone tried these stunning new CPT power cord?
Is this PC more than a cable with a transformer in line??
Do all tube preamps leak DC?
The AI preamp have a protection circuit that will not allow the unit to output if there is excessive DC at the output. I wouldn't worry about it. Just use the basic protocol. Amp on last, amp off first.
I need advice.
The AU-717 is very capable, but it comes with a laundry list of problems that need to be addressed. I have worked on several of them myself, and they have what is dubbed the "Glue Syndrome". Just google Sansui Glue, and you will see it posted abou...
Tube Preamp for around 2K?
If judging on tubes, there is not really a better preamp tube than a 6H30 IMO. It has a nice low output impedance, plenty of gain, does not typically need a cathode follower or additional gain stages, and just sounds very very right if implemented...
Kuzma tables/arms?
I can say with absolute certainty, that the Pipe Bomb is as named... The Bomb!! It gets fully realized if placed on a Symposium Platform. The improvement this makes takes it beyond belief. So yes, I think you made a great choice!!
Must speakers have certain volume to sound convincing ?
I think it is more about how loud you want your performance to sound. Scaled back, intimate, or lively and present. Some systems can pull both of these off, but me personally, if it is good, I want to turn it up  :)
Music Server
I have to plug the Totaldac Server. He has really taken it to a level I never thought possible for a digital source. I would be more than happy to discuss it with you further if you wish. Just shoot me a message.
Vocals and upper midrange too forward?
Yes, put them on the floor directly, and still give them the tilt they suggest by placing a book or books under the front of them. I know it doesn't seem right to you, but most of the small tower speakers I have used like this configuration.
Vocals and upper midrange too forward?
Spikes.... On slab floor? Carpet? If so, I have never liked the result from this, and the issues are exactly what you are describing. Even with carpeted wood flooring. If you have threaded inserts for the spikes in the bottoms of the speakers, loo...
