SACD vs Analog
A friend of mine who has the EMT 938 with EMT 929 tonearm and TSD-15 cartridge tells me that this turntable doesnt react to isolation platforms, it sounds the same no matter where you keep it and it is dead silent in the grooves unless the record ...
SACD vs Analog
Many/most who venture into analog just for a trial run, just to see if it can really better their existing high quality digital player are actually looking for "sound" and not "experience". The first few months are enough to either put them off or...
SACD vs Analog
A Rega P9 will not only outperform the SACD but also give you a good dose of that high end digital sound. More importantly do you have the vinyls to start this journey or are you willing to start afresh ?
Best used turntable/arm combo for under $7,500.00
My own Amazon Model One has a very quiet backdrop and images superbly, although, having recently heard a Lenco variant - I think it doesn't time brilliantly. I personally regret not buying the DPS about 9 years ago when it came out first (I felt t...
Best used turntable/arm combo for under $7,500.00
All the criteria you have mentioned buying a good expensive turntable is about functionality, reliability, cost etc...what about sonics ? Anyway a forum like this is highly handicapped to answer big blanket questions like these, on top you dont me...
An impression of some phono stages
Mordante, I also use a RCM Sensor Prelude in my system. As you have rightly evaluated it is a very neutral equipment which has very little of its own personality. I have heard it with some very high end cartridges (ZYX, Lyra) and some entry cartri...
Choosing between Reissue and Original pressings
Working duplicate tapes of the master are generally shipped overseas for release in other countries. These duplicate copies were most probably made out of the original copy ? If yes then obviously they would be inferior to the original because in a...
Choosing between Reissue and Original pressings
Thanks everyone for writing elaborate posts on this topic. This is a very important subject especially for people like me who has just started building their record collection. When I visit a record shop I see tons of options and it becomes diffic...
New Delos cart
Agreed that the 17D3 is no match to a Delos. I too had a 17D3 for a few days but I sold it within a week.
New Delos cart
Jaspert, I heard the Delos on a Rega P9 with RB1000 tonearm, 47 Labs phonostage, Naim 52 preamp with Naim 135 power amp driving a pair of ATC SCM20. I also had the Delos at home for a few days but at that time my spare TT (Technics SL1200) was pla...
New Delos cart
Delos is not lean, I agree. It is very revealing of the recordings I also agree. It is very musical, correct. If I had the luxury of multiple arms, most probably one of them would have had a Lyra on it. Even though I have heard many high end cartr...
New Delos cart
Let me clarify, I like the Lyra cartridges for its strengths which is basically speed and dynamics. I also like the Delos a lot. I have heard fully broken in Delos making glorifying music, however that little treble thing just remains and it shows...
High quality AC turntable motor
I have tried a Maxon motor from Switzerland. It is a high torque motor but as people have suggested here it is not as smooth and noise free compared to the stock Philips motor on my Verdier.
New Delos cart
Delos has a clear rising treble which never goes away. I dont hear that kind of treble from a Helikon for example (which is also very detail oriented). It is a artefact of Delos IMO.
LP12 vs Classic III vs. ?? vs.??
Another TT that is really nice and is in the same ballpark is the Thorens TD350. Whenever I heard it I came away very musically satisfied. It sounds cleaner, goes deeper in the bass and most importantly retains the "analogue" sound. I heard it pai...
