Audio-Technica AT-ART9 phono cartridge
Dodgealum, both the xx2 mk2 and Delos are relatively coloured in the tone and timbre when compared to a master tape like neutrality of the ART9. The xx2 will also sound veiled compared to the ART9. The Delos is transparent but it is not as fluid. ...
What's your experience with fine phono preamp s ?
Cdk84, it is nice to see EMIA being discussed here. I have heard Slagle's products and they are outstanding. If you can afford buying his SUTs which are specifically built for a particular cartridge (and is expensive) nothing like it! If the EMIA ...

Griffithds, please note, the ART9 needs 150 hours of burn in to settle down completely. Initially it could sound a bit bright or thin. It happened on mine. As it settles down you will be amazed by the combination of liquidity, resolution and dynam...
Audio-Technica AT-ART9 phono cartridge
I am using it. I was about to write a review about it but anyway since you have asked, all I can say is go for it! I have owned many cartridges in the last few years. Some carts costing up to $5k, the only cartridge that I felt worth owning was th...
Connecting the ground wire makes music less lively
Hi Pradeep,You are using a SUT with a low gain MM stage, that should not cause a hum IMO. In my system when I use a lower gain stage the hum is gone. The hum is only there when I use the highest gain on the phono. Unfortunately my MC cart needs th...
Connecting the ground wire makes music less lively
The Garrard motor has only two wired terminals. But my upgraded pc has 3 wires. The ground wire is just left taped and loose on the motor end. Should I connect this ground wire to some area on the motor ?

Another observation: I noticed that when I switch off the motor of my Garrard 301 the hum changes. It becomes thinner and slightly less prominent. Does that mean it is something to do with the Garrard motor grounding ?

Atmasphere, this hum issue is a recent one. It did not happen before. The cables were no different. Moreover the Mogami 2549 and 2534 cables that I use are extremely low capacitance cables. I also have a Van Den Hul D501 phono IC which also doesn'...
Connecting the ground wire makes music less lively
I tried borrowing a friend's pro-ject phono stage which has variable gain options. I noticed that with this phono there is no hum at 40 db and 50 db gain, however the moment I switch the gain to 60 db (that is the max gain on this phono) the hum i...

Would vinyl even be invented today?
Digital would have worked for audio as well as it does for video only if there were as many consumers who appreciate audio as compared to those who appreciate video. Look at the number of big flatscreen TVs and projectors that are sold. How many o...
