@tsushima1  No need to be ashamed, we all had to start somewhere….
Do these look similar?
Well I’m not sure who makes a plate amp commensurate with a Wilson price tag. And if there was one, it would still probably be the same as a 329.00 Dayton amp.

A lot of good it did the OP to ask the Tekton bashers to hold their tongues. They are just like window lickers, they can’t help themselves. To stay on topic, I think you are going down the right path to consider the CW IV. That is if you can sit ...
Denafrips Ares ii
I’ve never heard the Ares, but I own the Pontus II. I would say it’s every bit as dimensional as my previous MHDT Pagoda. Both are very fine dacs, but the Denafrips has slightly more detail and resolution while retaining the body of the Pagoda.
How does the VPI Aries II stand up to current mid priced tables?
I get your point. But I have seen the platter for 1150.00. Still a lot of $$ I know. But an Aries III doesn't come around very often, not that I have seen.

Keep in mind that you should have around 200-300 hours on the CWs before you can accurately asses their true tonal balance.
Volume matched inputs on a preamp?
The Benchmark LA-4 has that feature.

Is there a drop in platter upgrade for the Aries II?

You heard ebm, MONE on you fools.........

Just picked up a set of the footers on audio mart. They’ll be here before the table arrives, lol.

I think my first two moves (after living with it as is for a while) will be to replace the feet and the platter. That ought to reap quite an improvement.
Old man pointing and wheezing,. I remember when........
I had a Magnavox CDB-650, a NAD 3240 and a pair of DCM TF-350s. Low fi for sure, but I still have fond memories of that little rig.
