Amp vs Preamp which is more important? Valid question- don’t know your current set up or what sound you’re looking to create. Preamps are evolving since there are many including phono stage, DAC and sometimes streaming.
$50k - $80k Budget…Opinions please. @ghdprentice +1 Good luck and enjoy the process OP
High end speakers at low volume Good luck in your journey and my experience as I have upgraded my components- the low level listening has improved and my guess is because of the improved sound signal to the speakers. This has been true over three amplifiers - McIntosh MC 302...
McIntosh C22 (old & new) vs C2600 I had an excellent experience with the C2600. Used the phono stage as well as the DAC. I encourage you to give it a listen. There’s a lot of other good options but for me the C2600 rekindled my music listening. I have Moon by Simaudio gear and...
Amp power output in relation to impedance change Short answer its continuous. Speakers are given a nominal impedance rating- the actual impedance varies based on frequency. This is why certain speakers are described as hard to drive or easy to drive.
Integrated suggestions I think the Moon 340iX is quite a lot of amp for the money...it's SS amp and at the top end of your range. If you can give it a listen, I'd highly encourage you to audition it.
My Final System Build in Words & Pictures Cool stuff...enjoy!
Surge and Conditioning A whole house breaker is something I highly recommend- in expensive and installed at the circuit breaker.
Question about Shunyata Power Conditioners I use Shunyata power distributor and Venom NR power cables and am pleased with the impact. I also have Kimber Kable bifocal XL speaker cables and KCTG XLR interconnects. I started with speaker cables, the interconnects and finally power cable...
Can a better power cable make a difference if NOT plugged directly into an outlet? I’ve had a positive outcome using Shunyata Venom NR power cables into their power distributor. I’ve also installed a whole house surge protector to allow me to plug amps into the wall. I didn’t notice a difference and use the power conditioner be...

$50k - $80k Budget…Opinions please. Here's what I'd consider Speakers: SF Olympica Nova 5 (~$20k) Amplification: Moon 860Av2 (~$20k) Preamp/Network combo: Moon 390 (~7k)..the new 791 (~$16k) could be interesting Roon Nucleus with internal hard drive (~$2k) If desired turntable ...
Fyne 703 vs Sonus Faber Olympia Nova V @mmcgill829 I don't think you need a ton of power to drive them - technically their efficient speakers at 91db. My first audition with the Olympica Nova Vs was with an Audio Research Integrated amp - it was 80 watts. Frankly it opened my eyes ...
user poll on seperates vs integrated There's always a compromise and I currently use an amplifier and a source that includes preamp, streamer/dac and phono stage (Moon 390). There are several manufacturers with similar products (Moon 390 with 330 is about $11k) Keeping the amplific...
Fyne 703 vs Sonus Faber Olympia Nova V I own SF Olympica Nova Vs...I love them. They were my first upgrade so they have seen me change amplifiers from McIntosh to Moon and then up the Moon range. The speakers are my end-game speakers and that was proven when I upgraded from Moon M400s ... |
