Describe the "new HiFi sound"?
I don't know the term 'new HIFI sound' but if I was to explain it. My interpretation is detail without coloration. I'm in my 50s and the stereo's I heard in my younger years was enjoyable.  And when I listen to older equipment (for the heck of i...
Prioritizing Power Cable Upgrades by System Component.
I auditioned upgraded cables tehy were Shunyata Venom NR….  The impact was improved dynamics and details. And one of the sonic effects was the improved detail and control of lower frequencies - I think the cables reduced noise entering the compoun...
Speakers sounding dull? MUST READ! The truth about speaker design!
Enjoy!
Can we create a consensus list of the TONALITY of different amps/preamps/brands?
I’m not sure if consensus is possible because the system can be influenced drastically by speakers, cables and such   This weekend I am listening to a Moon 860A v2 and it’s significantly more of everything than my Moon M400s. Detailed, dynamic, f...
SF Olympica III to Amati Tradition
I've gone up the SF line from Venere's to Sonetto's and Olympica's Nova's...the sound improved drastically- clarity, details and spacing.
Starting from scratch and say $5000
There's a lot of excellent gear.  I believe the answer is yes.  I've owned and enjoyed McIntosh and now have some Moon gear - they sound different and I enjoy the change. I recommend you listen to different equipment.  I think you have an amazing...
Sonus Faber Olympica nova 2 VS Sonus Faber Cremona M Loudspeaker vs
@Op I have Olympica Nova V (previously Sonnetto V) and listen to a lot of hard rock/heavy metal and rap in addition to other styles. I've heard Olympica Nova 2s and think they sound great.  I'm sure there are other excellent options as well.  Enj...
Simaudio 340 i hard to beat for the $$
@john1629 I have owned both and have enjoyed each immensely.  Each has a 'house sound'.  McIntosh makes awesome looking and sound stuff; however, I have found theirs a beautiful 'veil' over the music.  Moon is very dynamic and transparent and ...
Stereo or monoblocks
I have monoblocks though it’s due to sound performance per dollar. There are excellent stereo amps and crappy monoblocks.    If you can audition - I recommend it.
First impressions of the Audio Desk Record Cleaner
I have had good luck with mine - my record collection is small (300ish); however, most are old enough to be the President of the United States.    I tend to view it as ‘insurance’ for my sanity and hopefully the needle. And if anything it was che...
Simaudio 340 i hard to beat for the $$
I’m considering upgrading my M400 amplifiers to the 860av2 and frankly it’s because of the upgrade program.  I have Moon and Sonus faber and if cost was no object it would be ARC.
Power cords known to produce good bass
I find some arguments for and against cable’s interesting.    if your rationale is why would the OEM not include the best cables - then you know the answer is ‘they don’t have to’ in order sell their products.    That isn’t the same as cables no...

Simaudio 340 i hard to beat for the $$
I like Moon products- I agree with some of @ghdprentice  comments that you may want a bigger jump.    The 340i is a great value for the dollar and the 600i is wonderful sounding but not sure if it’s just an incremental versus step change. I don’t...
I just moved and insurance
agree with ghdprentice I called my insurance company and even though I have a high value policy for my watches - they stated my stereo equipment is covered so I have receipts scanned on google and pictures for details on brand, model and SN so th...
