Little red gun next to turntable.
I have a relatively new zerostat which I occasionally try on records that come out of the sleeve with a lot of static. Generally, it has very little effect, and frankly I wouldn't bother if I didn't already have one (and hope didn't spring eternal...
Canadian Musicians
Here's a few that any REAL Canadians would mention: -Spirit of the West - You may recall the "Faithlift" album with the great track And if Venice is Sinking -Stephen Fearing, folk/rock, who keeps getting better and better. Some samples at: www.st...
How to connect bi-wire speakers
Still - all else being equal - it would appear that since you have to make a choice of which set of posts to connect a single wire to then the mid/upper would be the right ones, as Silversmith suggests. At a minimum, there may be no "audible" diff...
My digital front end outdoes my analog.....
Definitely agree with Nsgarch's post. But also for me, it's not a question of comparing "image and separation" or "dynamics". I don't think there's really a valid argument that even the highest end TT can equal digital's measurements in those resp...
Denon DP-500M Turntable?
In the Direct Drive genre, the KAB version of the Technics 1200 is a better TT than the new Denon, however you could also consider a mint vintage Denon such as the dp-62L (for less money!) or the dp-59L (which would run more $$$ for a truly mint e...
IMAGE PROBLEMS VOCALS OFF CENTER
I don't believe anyone here has recommended the very first thing you should have tried and it's not clear from your statement "placed left speaker on the right and right speaker on the left and vice versa" whether you did this properly :DO NOT SWA...
NPR : ALL SONGS CONSIDERED
The mother/father of all similar radio shows and still the best IMHO:http://www.wnyc.org/shows/newsounds/They have a great archive of past shows going back to the '80's online also.
Favorite Non-Major Record Label
In the Classical category - of course, the small Europeans are good (like those mentioned above) - but IMHO, by far the greatest "sleeper" is MHS (Musical Heritage Society). Many of their reissues are sonically better than the originals (mastered ...
A turntable around $250?
The ps-x50 is a very good sounding TT - a friend of mine had one that broke down because of the automatic features (REJECT, etc.) I opened it up, and literally tore out the linkages which do the auto stuff with my bare hands - leaving it as a 100%...
"Laurindo Almeida" Why so hard to find?
I'll second "Collaboration" (assuming it's available on CD). One of my favorite MJQ albums AND one of my favorite Almeida albums. Very nice jazz version of Concierto De Aranjuez!
tube preamps
The real no brainer would be buying a $5k preamp (like an Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, or Granite Audio) used on Audiogon for 1.6k !!!
Tracking Force Gauges
Hi - I didn't mean to imply the $95 is a sucker price, (or anyone buying that one is) since it's about right for that particular scale. I was referring to other scales I've seen marketed to the audiophile community for upwards of $250.
Tracking Force Gauges
Hi Dan - I realize that most of the people posting here are sophisticated enough to know this stuff, and make a decision based on their own needs (or psychology) - but I often like to play the Devil's Advocate for newbies who are reading Audiogon ...
Tracking Force Gauges
Oops I sent before done. To continue - it doesn't matter AT ALL if the scale is accurate on an absolute basis. All that matters is that its results are nearly identical over multiple passes (repeatable). Because ultimately, if you're going to set ...
Tracking Force Gauges
Admittedly, $100 isn't a lot of money to worry about for most of us, but why are audiophiles such suckers? For me it's the principle! Why would you want to spend more than this:http://saveonscales.com/product_jennings_js50x_digital_pocket_scale.ht...
