Whether they're 20's or 20i's (bi-wirable), you can isolate the woofers by removing the mid/tweeter fuse. 1. Play the offending music with those fuses out and if you hear the same scratchiness, it's likely that the woofers are your problem.2. To b...
What makes a High Efficiency Speaker
Warrenh - As Duke pointed out - the way the measurements are performed and the room environment can swing the results substantially. Not to slight the "Zu boys" who are apparently nice guys that really enjoy what they do, or the Zu speakers, which...
reference recordings
I only have it on vinyl, but I really like the Kronos Quartet - "In Formation" RR-9. I have quite a few others, but frankly, I'm not nearly as crazy about most RR's as some people - either from a recording or performance standpoint. The one's on A...
What makes a High Efficiency Speaker
True - I should have said "full range speaker". I wasn't talking about individual drivers outside of a cabinet.Sidebar - I don't want to start an argument about ZU's efficiency claims, because there have been plenty already, and it is a reasonably...
What makes a High Efficiency Speaker
Nowadays, many of the "high efficiency" speakers are made (or I should say Marketed) by sticking a dubious quality high power amplifier inside the woofer cabinet. Out of Sight, Out of Mind. Of course, these speakers aren't really high efficiency a...
poor vinyl
The html Hyperlinks in my post above don't work. Here they are more explicitly: Classical Ragas: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4834684787 Stan Kenton: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4829623430p.s. C...
poor vinyl
I'd say nearly three quarters of my Ebay purchases which were listed at VG+ to VG++ have been grossly mis-described. Most are either VG or VG-. And you have to keep in mind that VG is really a pretty weak rating on the Goldmine scale. This lp, for ...
Anyone familiar with the Kenwood KD 750 turntable?
I have not looked at a 750, but many of the Kenwoods had a speed stability problem created by aging/oxidized/corroded switch components under the 33rpm/45rpm speed control buttons, which on many units was a toggle type switch. If you play with put...
Bispeakering...am I the only one?
I used to do a lot of speaker combining (before I was married), and achieved some results that were phenomenal with really run of the mill speakers. I live across the street from a Goodwill, which up until 3 or 4 years ago was a constant source of...
Comments, please, on Spica TC-60 setup.
One suggestion which yielded pretty amazing results with TC-50's when I did something similar some 20 years ago: Once you have the position for the TC-60's optimized, and you've got a new amp(s) - try running the Spicas in parallel with the Missio...
Comments, please, on Spica TC-60 setup.
Spicas should be toed in almost until they point directly at you - if you had them set up more conventionally that may have been part of the problem. The TC-60's will not image quite the same as the TC-50's you remember since the design incorporat...
Upgrades for VPI HW -19 jr.???
The biggest improvement IMO would be better isolation (unless you already have a very good rack). In all regards they are pretty good TT's and a great bargain used - but stock, they are just wholly inadequate as far as low frequency feedback isola...
Does size really matter? :-
CONFIRMED by Sumiko - the measurement is .3 x .7 MILS (thousandths of an inch) not mm. They will be changing their info.
Does size really matter? :-
I have a call into Sumiko to verify but - I'd be willing to bet (you name the amount) that someone read "mil" and figured that's the same as "mm" when setting up the website. Since one mil is equal to about .025 mm. - Considering that the groove w...
