LAST Record Preservative. Do you believe?
Hey - you guys gotta learn how to check out the U.S. Patent Office - it can provide hours of aimless enjoyment and piles of useless information. For example here's a link to Last's Record Cleaner, Stylus cleaner, and Record Preservative patents:ht...
Led Zeppelin Classic Records 45 series -Am I nuts?
If you are looking for an audiophile experience, I'd say yes - you are nuts. These were not "audiophile" recordings in the first place. The 45 rpm would have a slight effect on low level detail - but there ISN'T ANY on most of the Zep! There is ve...
The Isolator: the latest rip-off?
Two pieces of steel in proximity to your $2000 moving coil cartridge? Added mass at the end of the tonearm? Foam that's similar to Dr. Scholl's shoe inserts**, while still coupling it to the headshell (since the cartridge, steel skin, and the stud...
LAST Record Preservative. Do you believe?
LAST definitely works. It does what they advertise by (to make a long story short) transforming the surface molecules of the lp from vinyl into Teflon. And it DOES NOT leave ANY residue on the LP. It becomes a gas almost instantly at room temp and...
Transformer Hum
I have had a couple of Citiaion 16's and they were both totally quiet. If all your amps are humming - it is very likely that the problem is NOT in the amps.
Comments, please, on Spica TC-60 setup.
Here's my theory on mating smallish ported speakers like the TC-60 with a sub(s). 1st part of the problem - if you're running the speaker level output from your receiver through the sub's crossover then into the Spicas, you have probably already s...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
Here's a quote from ArkivMusic.com : Arcangelo Corelli - Concerto Grosso #5 in Bb op 6, #5 - HMU 907014 from the WGUC Playlist. That recording is out of print, but the exact same performance is available with a different catalog number and is disp...
Does LAST Preservative DULL sound?
I still use it on lp's that I expect to play a lot, say 8 or 10 times a year. But I'm very careful with it, and only apply it while outside the house - for reasons stated below. As far as a sonic signature - I don't hear any difference that could ...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
Most courageous version - Canadian Brass! If you like the Brass Quintet sound, this is a really worthwhile listen. Someone named Arthur Frackenpohl was commissioned to transcribe this for 2 trumbets, French horn, Tuba, and Trombone - and he did a ...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
I have and the number on that is Archiv 2534 003 recorded in 1982. Archiv 400045 CD is the equivalent. Here's a little review of it:http://stereotimes.com/mr1030034.shtmand BTW - here's a very interesting history of Vivaldi and Four Seasons record...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
Last year I bought an LP collection that include 17 different versions of the Four Seasons. So I grabbed 6 or 7 more that I already had and spent the entire evening doing a "shootout", by listening only to the "Spring" movement for each. The Winner...
Labels for classical brass?
Some of the real sleepers are on Crystal Records which specializes in winds for the most part. Even though it's a small Indie label, most of the recordings are very good sonically. There are also some interesting obscurities on Golden Crest (lp onl...
What Irish music will you be playing on St Pat's?
James Galway and the Chieftains in Ireland, on green vinyl of course. An excellent recording.
Accurate vs Musical
Loudspeakers are reproducers, not "creators". At very best, they can be "accurate". The more accurate they are, the more they will produce that "air" you refer to - if it indeed exists on the recording.Calling a loudspeaker MUSICAL is not much dif...
