Two-Year-Olds and Turntables...
I took a different approach, which has worked (so far). We have a 22 month old, and I bought him an old Kenwood direct drive that he can play with all he wants (not plugged in), it's just sitting on the floor in his play space and he has his own ...
RMAF: My favorites, so-so's, and disappointments
HI - I'm just curious if you had listened to any of the larger Usher models and have a comparison with 718's?
Chamber Music - your best pick.
It is expensive from the dealers, but if you keep an eye on Ebay with a "Saved Search", you may be able to pick up a used copy for much less. I got mine that way for $15 on a "Buy It Now". There are also other very good performances that are still...
Chamber Music - your best pick.
Something on the obscure side which IMO ranks in the top tier of chamber composition is Biber's Mystery/Rosary Sonatas. My favorite version is by Reinhard Goebel with Musica Antiqua Köln, but it's also pricey. Here's a link to the Amazon page, whi...
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
Here's a unique one - I just picked up this independent, clarinet-centric LP at a library sale yesterday and very much like it. It's "modern" classical, but NOT modern in the form of random, irritable screeching. I'd call it "Mostly Melodic Modern...
recommendations for large speaker kits or DIY
Linkwitz Orion is a superb sounding speaker IMO, but it requires a fair bit of money and/or expertise with the electronics (crossover and amplification) to do it right. You can buy a very good used pair of large speakers for less than the cost of ...
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
Oops! - I didn't read the previous post carefully and didn't have time to write much detail as I was rushing out of the house for an appointment. The lp which didn't impress me was the "K622" (Clarinet Concerto) produced (and hyped) by John Atkins...
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
With all due respect, as everyone has different ears and different equipment - I also had the K581 lp and got rid of it because I found it to be a totally lackluster performance and just an OK recording.
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
I can't believe it - I ran into that friend I mentioned this AM (which happens about once every 3 months), had coffee with him - and totally forgot to ask whether he had any copies left. I'M A MEATHEAD!!! I'll call him tonight and check.
Going to USA: Where to buy LPs in CA and Vegas?
Hi - What types of music will you be looking for? Different stores here have different specialties... I'm in San Francisco and know the area and local dealers pretty well. (We live only 2 blocks from the Cathedral Hill Hotel).
Clarinet Music on vinyl or CDs
Meyer's playing IS very impressive, but I actually find the tone a little too round for my taste. I recently found an oddball lp which you might look for. Here's a relatively obscure one for you. A wonderful version (IMO) of the Mozart Clarinet Con...
Suggestions for Classical Piano "works of merit"
I don't know if this is available on CD or not, but there was a 7 lp release of Complete Mozart Sonatas played by Paul Badura-Skoda on Eurodisc from the early '80's which is really wonderful.
Best sounding LP nobody else has ever heard of...
re: Armstrong - I believe they used that lp in the Manley/Joseph Audio room a few years ago in San Francisco demonstrating the Pearls and it was pretty awesome as you describe - also voted Best In Show if I recall.
Jazz trombone anyone?
Kai Winding is fun - One of my favorites is Dance to the City Beat. Don't know if you're into vinyl or not, but if you find this on the original Columbia 6-eye, the sound is awesome. He also did a number of collaborative lp's during the 6-eye era ...
Looking for compilation suggestions
If you like the Kate Wolf - try:Nanci Griffith - "Other Voices, Other Rooms" which is really a covers album of Nanci doing other people's material and it's great. You can sample the tracks here:http://www.amazon.com/Other-Voices-Rooms-Nanci-Griffi...
