The "British Invasion". A question for you old farts out there.
For me it was the Kinks,Yardbirds and Manfred Mann against the world, but the big battle was the Beatles vs. the Rolling Stones.  And there was those people who preferred Donovan to Dylan.
Observation: Passion vs Obsession
A dictionary definition -- a person who purchases goods and services for personal use.  So whether you're a wise and savvy or rapacious fool, you are still just a consumer.  Putting together a well sorted out audiophile system is a step above asse...
Observation: Passion vs Obsession
I side with Tablejockey.  Audiophiles are not athletes honing their skill, but consumers buying things.  I applaud the passion and even the borderline OCD behavior, but let's not pretend it's a creative pursuit.  My comments do not apply to those ...
Why is NASCAR suddenly topping the charts?
You're not as smart as you think you are, but you're not stupid.  But you seem to assume everybody else is.
Whether to do anything about the limitations of our ears
The U47 is not flat when compared to an Earthworks M30 which measures 3Hz to 30kHz plus/minus 1/3dB.  The U47 was famous with vocalist for its very flattering proximity effect bass boost.Over the course of history acoustic instruments have been de...

Microphones used for audio recordings do not measure flat.  They are not designed for testing/measuring, but for recording voices and instruments. As a practical test to your observation, try listening to generated white noise and tell me if it sou...
Tiny bridges everywhere, but why?
I looked at the photo of your system and you have other cable management issues that are more important than risers.  It looks like a jumbled cable mess behind your rack.  Sort that out first.
old console stereos with new electronics?
Most console systems had poor loudspeakers and by today's standard not too good turntables.  However, the amp and tuner section could be quite good -- I'm thinking Fisher and Pilot models.  You will have plenty of space to retrofit a streamer and ...
I agree with Keef
I don't understand some peoples' need to rewrite history.  The reason the US now has laws banning discrimination based upon race is because historically the US was a systematically racist society.  Prime examples would be the race based slave econ...
How can a system be judged with highly processed, non acoustic music?
Unless you were at the mastering session were the final sound was agreed upon by the artist, producer and mastering engineer, then you have no real knowledge of what a recording sounds like.  Even then, you only know what the recording sounds like...
I agree with Keef
Regarding what the song is actually about, here is what its writer, Mick Jagger, said:In the Rolling Stone interview (14 December 1995, RS 723) Jagger spoke at length about the song, its inspiration and success, and taking credit for writing the...
I agree with Keef
It's a truly great song, but they have been playing it for 50 years.  At some point it's time to stop and I'm not even sure the reason is important.  Artists evolve and the real fans evolve with them.  They've never done "Jig-Saw Puzzle" in concer...
Is Bob Dylan’s “visions of Joanne” a rap song?
On more than one occasion Mr. Dylan has acknowledged the influence on his lyrics of Chuck Berry, particularly "Too Much Monkey Business".
Drummers Talking About Drumming
Yes, Neil Peart was not mentioned, but neither was Jim Gordon, Earl Palmer, Mitch Mitchell, Tony Williams, Tony Thompson, Bill Bruford, Benny Benjamin, Al Jackson, Roger Hawkins, Jon Hiseman, Billy Cobham and BJ Wilson.  Everyone of them is equal ...
