What are your opinions of DSP's for speakers
To misquote, keep the signal path as simple as possible, but not simpler.  Who out there uses a single driver loudspeaker with no electrical crossover?  It's a far less cluttered signal path than the complex multi driver setup most people use.  Bu...
I bought 4 subwoofers and I'm absolutely not doing a DBA! Hah!
Does the plate amp have to be in the cabinet?
New buy, no return policy
I find it interesting that no dealers participated in this thread.  It would be interested in hearing from a dealer as to the actual logistics of transporting and setting up 200+ lbs loudspeakers for an at home demonstration.  Do they crate the lo...
New buy, no return policy
show room and order If it wasn't for the dealer performing the showroom function, how would you have known if you liked the Acoras?  As I stated earlier, I think you made the right decision, as did the dealer.  But at some level this is another...
New buy, no return policy
I think the OP and the dealer both made the right move for themselves.  As detailed above there is much work and risk involved in doing an at home demo for expensive large loudspeakers.  The buyer had a less costly alternative with the option to r...
polishing pins of NOS tubes
I don't have any experience with highly corroded pins, so I just insert the tube into the socket a few times. Are you all cleaning your interconnect pins in this manner?
"audiophiles listen to their equipment"
@magon yes, live music is different than reproduced music.  Good luck with your further explorations in the meaning of music.
"audiophiles listen to their equipment"
Music is something that happens in your mind.  The stimulus need not be a sound.  A written score does not need to be played to be understood as music.  A sound designer/editor can look at a waveform and see the music.  A profoundly deaf person ca...
Billie Holiday's Best Vinyl Recordings?
They come in various collections, but the Billie Holiday/Lester Young recordings are a must listen. As a stylist Billie owes much to Louis, as do all jazz singers.
How to choose speakers that won't overpower your room?
Think about how far you have to place the Sonus Fabers from the rear wall.  An absolute minimum of 3 feet, but preferable 5 or 6 feet.  Then, how far are you going to sit from the loudspeakers?  As a factor of how far apart you place the loudspeak...
Background vibration and your system.
Fascinating.  At one point I lived in an old wood framed house in Indianapolis about 12 miles from the airport and a half mile from the interstate.  The passing of heavy trucks over a short overpass bridge on I-65 was something you could hear and ...
Did I Expect too much?
I suspect a $6 binding post is a perfectly good quality binding post.  A Cardas binding post is 10x the cost.  It should sound better.  For me $15k is a large sum of money to spend on an audio component, but in today's market it won't buy SOTA par...
Do You Unplug Equipment During Thunderstorms?
On rare occasions.
And the biggest influence on sound quality is...
I've got recordings that make my system sound horrible, and I've got recordings that make my system sound absolutely wonderful. I'm thinking that you have it backwards.  You have records that sound horrible or wonderful and your system sounds t...
Lay sonus faber on the side?
It will not hurt the loudspeakers, but they will not sound as they were designed.  Expect drastic differences in soundstage/imaging.
