How much LF info on LPs?
Nrchy, you have a very fine system, but your speakers don't do deep bass. My comments about the merits of digital bass are from listening to a system capable of producing deep bass. Rather than talking in vague generalities, please point out a spe...
2 REL Storms or 1 Stadium?
The Stadium 3 is an excellent subwoofer. I think they are so good that I purchased a pair. I have absolutely no regrets. Would I have better sound with a pair of Stentors, you bet! But I imagine if I had bought twin Stentors, I'd then be lusting f...
How much LF info on LPs?
As stated above, there's no question that vinyl can go quite low, but deep bass is one of the few areas, maybe the only area, where Redbook standard CDs can actually exceed the performance of well pressed vinyl. Very deep bass on vinyl is constrai...
Radio Stations, what is their source?
Also add minidisc, CD-R and dedicated hard disk systems.
Records are better. I actually heard it
Vinyl is truly a superior medium to Redbook standard digital, but there are still tremendous gains to be had. The heavy handed RIAA EQ radically strips vinyl of transparency and palpability. As a result the modern electronic based phono amp circui...
Cinder Block Walls
Rives, thanks. To clarify, all 4 of the walls are bare cinder block. The ceiling is unfinished with exposed joists. The room will be dedicated to audio and I'll have the flexibility to position everything for optimum sound quality. The room will be...
System for a teenager
For something completely different:I assume as a college student he already has a computer with CD-ROM and a reasonably large hard disk. Use the CD drive to rip music onto the computer's hard disk (store them at full 16 bit/44.1KHz resolution). Th...
Review: Tact Audio Tact-2.2 Preamplifier
The TACT is a pain to setup, but it's well worth the effort. I've had mine for about a year and have come to the conclusion that the time correction between channels (effectively a channel balance control) is just as important as its EQ functions.
Best blues guitarist, Clapton or Green
There never really is a best of anything, but if forced to choice I'd say Albert King is the master.
Why no remote?
Adding quality sounding remote functionality to a preamp adds significant cost and complexity to a design. Still I've come to the recent conclusion that a preamp cannot be considered a serious high end design if it lacks remote control capabilitie...
Here's a "must have" for you female vocalists fans
Apparently there are some real issues with the quality of the recording.http://www.musicgearnetwork.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=004715
Putting floorstanding speakers on stands...
Sound Anchor can fabricate custom stands for floorstanders. I have a pair of Monitor Audio Studio 20s and I needed to raise them 4". The stands are metal, quite heavy and the spikes allow for tilt adjustment. Cost was about $250. By raising the hi...
Reactions to HP's review of Antique Sound Lab amp?
Talking about the last issue of TAS, what I actually found even more interesting is Valin's comment towards the start of the Kharma speaker review. He talks about how his recent review of the Rockport Hyperion and addresses why he is not using it ...
Digital isolation. Am I doing this correctly?
Just be sure to spend plenty of hours dissecting the sound of your revised system setup. Try not to let the music get in your way.
Reactions to HP's review of Antique Sound Lab amp?
What's not to like about the TAS review. It's an outright, unequivocal rave. Furthermore the product seems to be an "honest" product. No bold innovations, fancy CNC cases, no silly acronyms -- it's just a simple circuit executed right. Furthermore...
