How do you think this system would sound?
Your proposed system should sound quite good, but I don't see how it will address your problem with rock recordings. You are correct in your thinking that rock recordings are a limiting factor, but a lower resolution system cannot create "musicali...
For SF Cremona: JF Concentra 1 or Plinius 8150?
Stay with the Plinius. I have a JRDG Concentra I and think it's a marvelous product, but that doesn't mean it will out perform the Plinius in your system. I have not heard the Cremonas, but I have observed a strong family sound in their other prod...
Why is there so much Rowland gear for sale?
I admit it, I'm a JRDG fan. I've owned the Coherence II preamp (the early 90s version), a Model 1 power amp, a Concentra integrated and a Model 112 power amp. All were purchased used or demo. Besides the great looks and build quality, Rowland has ...
A to D to SACD to A: A Natural Progression?
What you suggest can be easily accomplished for about $2,300. Get an Apple iMac ($799), an Apogee Mini-Dac ($850 street price) and two OWC Mercury Elite 180Gb firewire hard disk ($340). The iMac will run the iTunes software, the Apogee has a USB I...
Anyone using i tunes as a computer based jukebox?
My mistake. OS X does provide SRC as Jacopob described above. Sorry for the confusion. I'm glad I haven't "upgraded".
Anyone using i tunes as a computer based jukebox?
Jacopob, I'm no expert on OS X (I use 9.1), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't perform any sample rate conversion. SRC requires a fair amount of processing power and I don't believe your machine could handle in real time the double SRC (16/44 to 32/96...
Does anyone have or used the Edge NL-10
The M-Ls and the Pass are a good combo. You might consider passively biamping the speakers. I too have the Odysseys and it made a very positive difference when I added the second Rowland amp.
Reactions to HP's review of Antique Sound Lab amp?
Everytime you swap out a piece of equipment there is some element of risk. Whether you've devoted 60 hours of comparative in-home listening or simply took the plunge within 10 minutes of just looking at the product there's a roughly equal chance t...
Looking For High Quality Equipment Rack
Sc53, interesting comment about the placement of your turntable. My RPM is a non-suspension design with a steel base. From your comments I should be able to place the RPM directly on the Sistrum. Thanks.
Looking For High Quality Equipment Rack
Ksales, thank for your response. You're not alone in praising the Sistrum. I cannot spike the rack directly to the floor. There will have to be some sort of floor protector. Will this impact the effectiveness of the Sistrum?Stehno, my priorities (...
Single Channel Attenuator
EVS makes a stepped attenuator with 2db increments (can be special ordered with 1dB steps), but it's $150 each.
Any audiophile quality speaker disconnect switch?
Doesn't sound like a good idea. Tube amps run the risk of damage if operated without a load present on its output. Are you afraid that the turn on/off pulse is harming your speaker? What is the amp and the speakers?
Integrated amp for less than$2500,your suggestion
I thought I saw a JRDG Concentra I for sale here on A'gon for $2,500. It matches your desired sonic description. You also might consider an Audio Research CA50. Good luck!
System Plateau--Help Me Take The Next Step
Changing equipment won't get you where you want to go. Your current system is quite good. From your description it sounds like your room is the limiting factor. If this is true, then whatever equipment swaps you make will not be particularly cost ...
How much LF info on LPs?
To Nrchy,My point about your speakers, which btw I also own, is that they do not produce deep bass. The Sonys fall off sharpely by mid-40Hz. Such a speaker cannot be used to make any meaningful statement about deep bass. To make myself as clear as...
