Are Recording Engineers "Certified"? The direct answer to your question is, no there is no formal certification to be a recording engineer. There are a number of schools that offer hands on training in recording techniques and there are even college degrees in recording technology, b...
8 Time Grammy Award Winner? For Real? Busic2, how can you possible say the intent in your original post was not to disrespect Norah Jones? The entire post is a put down of the record. Maybe you should reread your post. But then again, you did admit you were whining.
Noel Redding Mr. Redding's place in rock history is solid and secure. Afterall he was the bass player with the Jimi Hendrix Experience. That being said, Hendrix actually played bass on a large number of the Experience's recorded tracks.
What's more important; sound or brand name? All things being equal sound is more important, but all things are rarely equal. If the choice is between a top of the line Conrad-Johnson preamp and a slightly better sounding preamp hand made in their spare time by someone in his garage, then th...
Killer female vocal recordings-show me the light.. With all due respect I believe your original premise is misguided. Billie Holiday's best recorded performances are all pre-1945 (the same with Louis Armstrong and a good deal of Duke Ellington) and they are masterpieces of 20th century music. The ...
No Stairway and no Free bird.. please... Voodoochile, don't dismiss "Freebird". Once you get a vocalist have him (her?) do it as an unacommpanied solo vocal. At first the audience won't recognize the song, but when they do it will slay them. Check out the ending of the film "Duets" to se...
Help -- my system is too bright The ringing is somewhat inherent in the design of their tweeter. I remember seeing evidence of it in an old Stereophile review of the Studio 20s. They showed a waterfall graph with a severe resonant mode in the 22KHz-25KHz area. It was reported as...
The Future of Recorded Music Regarding MP3 compression, every non-audiophile I know says they clearly hear the difference between 16bit/44KHz digital and the various compression schemes. As audiophiles we shouldn't completely discount the publics desire for good quality sound.
Help -- my system is too bright I think the "problem" is your the Monitor Audio's ultrasonic ringing. I've never heard the 60s but I've had the Studio 50s for three years and I (still) own a pair of Studio 20s. The MA tweeter has a very prominent ultrasonic peak that some people...
The Future of Recorded Music This is a major step in the evolution of music distribution. It brings legitimacy to downloading music. Unfortunately, since the songs are in a compressed format there really isn't much in it for the typical audiophile. However, as technology evol...
Digital Room Correction: The Final Frontier? The TACT is a very powerful tool and is capable of producing wonderful results. On the downside it's only appropriate for digital only systems and the software is complex with skimpy documentation. I've been using a TACT for about a year with very...
DIY Room tunes: close enough for rock and roll? You can get to 99.99% if you take the time and effort. There's nothing magical about either type of device, it's just paying attention to detail and careful placement and listening.I do question whether you should mix both bass traps and room lens...
"Can't buy Virgos" So what isclose for $1200used? I've recently seen a few pairs of Monitor Audio Studio 20s being offered at the $1,200 price level. They offer great resolution, bass down to 45Hz (in room can extend that to upper 30s), first class soundstaging and they're an easy amplifier load....
Where does that hiss on the master come from? Fatparrot, don't blame the signal processor for the mistakes made by the remastering engineer. Pro level noise reduction devices (i.e. Cedar or NoNoise) are powerful tools that can be easily misused. In the hands of a skillful and caring engineer ...
Where does that hiss on the master come from? If the master tape has been digitized there are processors/software that can reduce (3 to 10dB) the sound of tape hiss without harming the music signal. Just a small amount of noise reduction can make a big subjective listening difference. |
