Are DIY, CAT5 cables really that good?
How tightly do you braid your pairs? As tight as possible, or more of a loose braid?
help narrowing down my list of speakers, $2500
You need to spend less time on Audiogon and more time listening to speakers. Do you have any idea how differently each of the manufacturers approach speaker design? Until you narrow your scope down to 2 or 3 specific speakers (not manufacturers), ...
Tube equipment reviews
Mprime...Thanks for the kind words. And I'm glad you're enjoying the pre-amp. Every day I seem to appreciate and enjoy the AES AE-3 DJH even more. I've currently got some EH 6SN7s in mine that shipped stock with a friend's Rogue 99 Magnum pre. Whi...
Tube equipment reviews
How about you kick it off with this thread?I'd be really interested to hear what tubes you've tried in your (I'm assuming) AES AE-3 DJH. I've got one, but haven't done any seious rollin'.You don't also happen to have a pair of Sixpacs that you've ...
Moving from SS to tube system
I have not (yet) been able to do a head-to-head comparison of the Rogue M-120s and the AES Sixpacs. However, I have listened to both amps with essentially the same supporting hardware, and could give some general impressions, but without a side-by...
Starter Turntable
Why do you all have to make this sound so complicated?I was in this guys exact same position 3 years ago, was asking the exact same questions, and had the exact same concerns. If I was reading all of this advice, I'd be thinking that this is way t...
If Thiel, Wilson, Sonus, made active speakers?????
But where would the tubes go?
Rotel RB-1080 humm
I had a similar problem when I owned a RMB-1095. The solution was to get a cheap filter for the coax TV cable (I used a power strip that had a coax filter built in). Worked like a champ.
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
I believe!!!For less than $5, I purchased 2 fishing weights from the Bass Pro Shop and some Blu-tac equivalent from the Home Depot. It took 3 attempts to figure out how much blu-tac equivalent (actually, mine is yellow) to use, but I no longer fee...
PS Audio Statement IC's
I use the xStream Statement inteconnects exclusivly and love 'em.They were just reviewed over at Positive Feedback. In summary, John Zurek said, "If you want exactly what PS Audio advertises — big, robust, sound, full of mid-bass energy and low-en...
Just got my B&W Signature 805's long
The Strata III is a great match with the B&W N805.I second the recommendation of Sugarbrie - if you can spare the coin, go for two.
Anyone heard AES/Cary Sixpac monos?
Once my new table / tonearm / cartridge break in and I have an opportunity to tweak my analog setup, I hope to have some unbiased people over for a listen (then subsequently post their impressions - both good and bad - of this system). Personally,...
Anyone heard AES/Cary Sixpac monos?
I'm using B&W Nautilus 805s + a REL Strata III (crossed over at 42Hz I believe). My frame of reference comes from using a Rotel RMB-1095 with this speaker setup. When I put in Nine Inch Nails "Pretty Hate Machine" and let the db's fly, I'm not ...
Anyone heard AES/Cary Sixpac monos?
Are the SixPacs good with large scale classical music? That's an interesting question. Let me ask you a question to help clarify the root of your inquiry:What aspects of large scale classical music are you most interested in?The low end is phenomi...
Anyone heard AES/Cary Sixpac monos?
Thanks, Troutki. You can check out my system at Nicholas Renter's SystemIf I may quote myself:As for the AES hardware (AE-3 DJH and Sixpacs), I was nervous about transitioning to tubes. Would the tube rush drive me crazy? Could I live with the weak...
