Pre/Amp/Int for Vandersteen 2ce Sig II for +/-$3k
If you can audition it, you may want to consider the Ayre AX-7e.
Troubles with Sound-Smith return communications?
I've bought 2 carts from them, and the response has always been great.
Speaker appearance verses musicality.
Ok...I'll say it:My guess is that, for the most part, sound quality is at best 50% of the buyer's decision. This hobby is not purely about aesthetics.
Why do subs sound bloated or slow?
Not that this benefits this discussion, but I feel the need to thorow out a peeve of mine when discussing "subs" - this supposed magical frequency of 80 Hz. IMHO if you are using 80 Hz as a crossover point you're already off to a bad start with re...

Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
I'm having a Pioneer CT-F1000 restored for inclusion in my "vintage" system.
Vintage Receivers.....5 gang tuners....
You may want to try your question over at AudioAsylum.com or AudioKarma.org. I really enjoy my restored Pioneer SX-1250.
Teres Illius Tonearm
I'd be interested to know, too. I love my Teres table (basically a cocobolo 245 w/ a Verus motor). There used to be a lot of buzz about their products, but that seemed to cool off after they discontinued the 2xx and 3xx series to focus on the high...
any early 80's alt/soft punk fans out there?
Hey Macdad, you didn't happen to catch the Femmes at the Aragon back in early 90, did you? I was supposed to be visiting Northwestern's campus, but bailed on that evening's activities to catch the show. Good times.
STP distance. Is it critical ?
Changing one of the three "dimensions" changes the other two for a given geometry. If the STP increases, so does the effective length, the cartridge offset angle shallows. This only makes sense...As P-to-S increases, effective length must increase ...
When does analog compete with digital?
Digital is superior for 1 reason: RemoteThe lack of remote allows me to focus on the music currently playing, rather than thinking about which track to jump to next. However, if I could train my 5-year-old to flip sides, brush the record, clean th...
Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
Wasn't the CD sold as "perfect sound forever"?As a matter of fact, I just bought a laserdisc player last week, too. I love the video quality (particularly on my Sony Bravia LCD TV). It has a very film-like quality. I appreciate it because of (and ...
Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
Actually, the first cassette I dropped into this deck was a live-to-2-track recording I did about 20 years ago of a Ph.D candidate performing a piece for berimbau. It had been stored in a hot Texas attic for the past 10 years, and it's storage dur...
Vinyl comeback now, cassette tapes next?
I just bought a Pioneer CT-F1000 and I'm looking to have it restored.
B&W 805 Diamond vs 805 Siganture
Do the 805D's use first-order crossovers? Are they now both time and phase aligned?
