How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
Sansui 8 is pretty amazing sounding with a sweet phono stage and I always loved the green dial lamp.

oblny,I hear you.  I had a couple of Pioneers briefly and liked them. I actually prefer the SX1050 over the SX1250.  These were really built well.  I get tired of some audio buddies talking about how 'mid-fi' this is, but I don't agree at all.  Ho...

Inna,This is an excellent point.  Today manufacturing can be controlled and quality maintained alomost anywhere.  Even without waiting for a new machine to appear, one can buy a quality used  open reel deck and have it refurbished for under  $2500...

topoxfordoc,And this is why those old companies (Sony, Studer, TEAC, Pioneer, AKAI, Tandberg, Nagra, Otari, etc., ) need to get back to manufacturing machines again.  If they could build one that was economical enough, those who love the analog so...

lewm,You make a good point on how one defines 'vintage'.  I guess when I started the thread I was thinking 60 & 70's.  But as 80's are now long gone that would qualify as well.Your system sounds awesome. I am wondering what model Threshold you...
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
playpen,Depending on the model, your P+E might actually be a Dual in wolfs clothing.  Dual bought P+E in the early 70's.  Flip it over and look at the bottom of the motor.  If it has Dual stamped in it, then it was built by Dual after P+E closed. ...

Dolby NR encoding - did it ever work
inna,How is it that you are recording directly from phono to deck?  I know Eckart mentioned that he does this too.  You must be using some type of phono preamp out?  Yes?Last night I calibrated the Dolby on a Nakamichi 500 Dual tracer.  It has the...

Sam,Yes definitely. They did have a 2" 16 track machine but that was in another studio.  The 24 track machine was an MCI, the 16 track machine was a Sony, but I don't remember which model.I am wondering where you were able to find 1/2 inch masters...
