Ultimate Idler Drive
Robyatt, I think you already own the ultimate idler drive, in the Thorens 124. If my Dual ever dies, that is the one I will be searching for.Norman
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
Hanaleimike,Man, I am going to pour a double scotch tonight and cry with you. Sorry about the loss. But, cheer up! Lots of good Conrad Johnson, McIntosh, Citation, Dynaco, marantz, etc.. to be found. Go for it. You'll have the time of your life, a...
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
Carter,Man you are spot on. It seems that all of us, somewhere in time lost the entire notion that it is all about the music. The system that I mentioned is one that I have owned for over 30 years. However, it wasn't the only one I listened too in...
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
Cafreeman, that is a beloved system. I had some Mac gear, a MA 6100 integrated, then later a C-29 and a MC-2300. I also had an LP 12, but I couldn't walk across the floor when playing a record. (needed a better support)Nice to see that there are s...
How many use Vintage Hi-Fi systems?
Stringreen, better speakers? Not that there aren't any, there are many. The BP 10s still sing. I have my eye on a pair of Quads, ESL that an audio buddie of mine will be parting with. Properly set up, they are really sweet. And yeah, the Grace arm...
Personal amp evolution
McIntosh MA-6100, Harman Kardon Citation 16A, Phase Linear 400 Series II, Carver M-400 (two, strapped in mono), Yamaha M-40, McIntosh MC-2300, Harman Kardon Citation 16A.. which is where I stop. Without question, the Citation 16A is the best balan...
bullet proof amp
McIntosh MC 2300 will drive a .5 ohm load (almost a direct short!) all day long. Doesn't even sweat. You should these strapped in mono... The Dead used these amps for there sound system for years.
The best speaker you ever heard?
Boy, great question. I really like the B&W 801's, but I remember years ago listening to some huge McIntosh speaker set up. I mean, huge. Six foot midrange / tweeter panels per side and separate subwoofers for each channel. It was incredibly sm...
Linn Basik LV-X vs. Grace 707
Grace, every time.. Linn Basik LV-X is a nice arm, but the Grace is so much sweeter. I use a 747 and love it.
The disappearing $500 turntable
Tell me something new. I would recommend going used. Dual 1229's used in manual mode are outstanding and robust. (I have a Grace 747 tonearm on mine) The idler wheel drive is dead silent and has pace, pitch and power like no ones business. Every n...
How many People own Working Reel to Reel Decks?
Well, I use a Teac 3300s (in my main system), a Sony TC-755 and a Revox B-77 in secondary systems. Been using reel to reel since about 1975. My Revox is half track, so I use it primarly for live recording. The Teac (my absoulte favorite machine) i...
