Plinius SA102, single versus mono?
Your timing sucks. I recently got a second SA100 mk3 to do just that. Didn't want to hook both up till I got a dedicated line and then the house got sold. My problem is compounded by a third bass amp (Genesis 1600W). That's almost 3KW combined int...
Best amp for Carver Amazing Platinums?
Bridging into that low impedance can stress any amplifier not rated into 2 ohms or less. Because of that low impedance and current requirements, capable tube amps are very expensive. Older SS amps, as the Carver, don't have the finesse and imaging...
What so special about electro-static speaker
Can't speak for the top of the line 'stats such as Soundlabs but the few lesser expensive 'stats I've heard were fast and detailed but lacked timbre. They had the bow and strings of a violin but not the wood. Same for piano. Anybody, feel free to ...
What is the sonic differences between Manley and..
Okay, now we got a starting point. Both companies have done a lot of work on output transformers since the late 90's and those really dictate the sound. The newer Neo-classics are more than just an evolution just as the Siegfrieds are for VTL. Befo...
What is the sonic differences between Manley and..
Which models? Which year? Since the split, both companies have been evolving but both can take pride in quality products. You just can't compare a 300B to the Snappers or those to the Wotan.
Help me with Speakers Now plz.
My personal favorite in that range is PSB Stratus Gold. Big, dynamic floorstander but might be a tad bright in your sytem.Second hand Hales and Dunlavys are going for good prices because they went out of business but consider the shipping for thes...
Does your system always sound good?
Yes, it does. Lalalalala.
What price do you put on your gear?
The speakers are sacrosanct but everything else is replaceable. Just had to find a new place to live and it was difficult trying to find a suitable home for them.
Infinity Kappa polydome k replacement
Thanks. Good info. What I appreciated most about the origional Kappas was the reproduction of sax and woodwind that I attributed mostly to those big domes. They had a breathing quality that even my big Gennies can't match. Tight sealed bass and lim...
wht does a preamp do?
As with any variable output CDP, analog or digital, close attention has to be paid with other gear. Both resistive analog attenuators (or pots) and digital volume controls don't sound best till 80%. By adding a preamp in the chain you have normali...

System Gain, Volume, and component matching?
I agree. Absolutely. No argument here.
Acoustic absorber panel question
Best bang for the buck I've seen for anything but bass. http://www.readyacoustics.com/index.phpIn the process of building DYI membrane traps now. Three of them cost about the same as one commercial unit but I used solid oak frames.
System Gain, Volume, and component matching?
Can't comment on the Rowland. Never been fortunate enough to own one. It could be nonlinear for obvious reasons. I can think of a few, that I know of, like that. However, standard practice for actives is to amplify and then attenuate. There would ...
Bent Audio TAP?
My apologies, espescially to John. Took a look at site and new version of TAP is out. Uses same trannys as NOH but shorter paths so should sound even better. I've heard both silver and OCC versions and the silver might be a better match for tubes....
