CD SACD PLAYERS
Don't know about the Esoteric at all, but I do have the Marantz. Compared to others that I have (BAT, Raysonic, Wadia, Cal Audio) and I have compared it to them at length, the Marantz is more forward in the mid-range. It has excellent bass and is ...
Speaker placement
Interesting. I didn't try that with my Acoustats or Quads but I did angle them so that their backwave hit the sidewall behind the speaker as opposed to the backwall. Sort of diffused the backwave as it lengthened the on axis signal path. This crea...
Jazz for aficionados
Frogman, I for one, and I suspect there are many others, appreciate your posts. Unlike some other's posts, they offer the opportunity to learn something other than just what an (un)informed participant's personal (subjective) opinions are, interes...

Sorry to be late but, maybe, for the future. A 63CD collection of the complete recordings by Fritz Reiner and the CSO on RCA. It is on sale now at Arkiv Music for about $150 +/-. A great place to start both for performances and some vintage & ...
Tube rolling 12AX7As
There are two reasons to change tubes in an amp. 1) Improve quality of tube and 2)Change the tone of the amp. Different brands of tubes, both new issues or NOS, impart a distinctly different tone. To be sure you get the tube that is best for you, ...
Integrated tube amp has no bass Cayin A50T
I'm, not familiar with your speakers so take this for what it's worth, but EL34 tubes are more famous for a great mid range than extended highs or bass. This may not be the integrated amp for you and/or your speakers, or any speakers, if you want ...
Speaker placement
Boy does that ring a bell! I started with Acoustats then I moved on to Quad 63's (for better resolution) and did most every thing you mentioned including changing electronics, wires, etc. I spent over three years of my life(!) trying to tune them ...
Wrong setup?
Since I know nothing about your actual set up I will assume that your seating position is centered between the speakers and about the same distance from them as they are apart. Assuming that, try toeing in the speakers so that the axis of the spea...
Wrong setup?
The physical set up of your system has so much to do with the sound you hear and is something often ignored by folks with similar complaints. What is the physical set up of your stuff i.e. location of speakers relative to the wall behind them and ...
Where do the tubes go?
Charles, Your experience has been fine, but is by no means universal. A major hurdle, IMHO, is matching the tube amps output impedance (curve) with the speakers frequency response. Not a simple issue for most, but especially for a tyro who has no ...
Where do the tubes go?
For someone who is not familiar with tube components and their issues, the best place to start is with a tubed pre-amp (IMHO). However if you're up to getting the most/biggest differences from using tubes, a tubed CD source (or phono pre-amp for t...
Speaker placement
Geoffkait, How do you come up with what the 'correcty distance' might/should be without reference to room dimensions and the distance of the listening position from the plane of the speakers? Personally I think many folks don't properly give the s...
Fuse Blowing on Superamp AE 25
2 caveats w/new tubes, 1)be sure to turn bias screws back (counter clockwise) to minimum before you insert new tubes and turn on. 2) Although it was not a problem for me with my Cary amps, it is not unusual for a power tube loss to be accommodated...
Fuse Blowing on Superamp AE 25
You may have had a power tube short out.
Best budget cables for tube amp
For inexpensive IC's and speaker cable I think you would be amazed by the performance of the 10ga Belden cable sold by Blue Jeans. And their IC's are excellent as well. But both of these are probably too cheap for many. :-)
