How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
RV Piano, In that same vein, I first heard holographic imaging in a medium sized demo room at a dealers. They had a CJ 5 preamp driving a Threshold SA amp, driving a pair of smallish Thiel 4’s (preceding the CA series) using a Oracle TT (I don’t r...
Marantz SA11 S2 "no Disc" "Cant read disc" errors not happy
I've had this happen on several CDP's (but not my Marantz - yet anyway). Each time the problem was resolved by putting in a new laser. Perhaps they lose resolving power with age, not just die. (?)
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
RVpiano, d2girls beat me to it, but for the record, if it ain't in the recording it's never going to come out of your speakers, and it is rarely in the recording. Now if you happen to have such a recording (such as Depth of Image by Opus 3) electr...
Power Amp Synergy with Primaluna Prologue 3 Tube Preamp
FWIW, I liked the Prima Luna Prologue amps with this unit.  Other amps, not so much. I think there is a good synergy here.  You can find the 4 or five fairly cheap. One of the issues to consider is the output impedence of the pre-amp is fairly hig...
Classical Music for Aficionados
I don't know greatest, but I have co-favorites -Liszt's Annees de pelerinage and Schumanns Fantasy in C Major.

+1 on Wild's 4th. For that matter I consider one of the great values in audio is the set of all 4 concertos by these forces. It's now available in a set on Amazon for $22 plus. Twoleftears, seriously, don't miss this if you really like these works...
Good FM tuner for around $1K
FWIW, one of the finest vintage tuners made, was the Accuphase T100.  If you can find one that has been gone thru, i.e. new caps, lights, possibly RCA, etc, and aligned, for under $1000 you can not do better. I had and used one for many years it w...
Reference Recordings
IMHO, none of this stuff is realistic, only just a poor facsimile of the real thing. That said, IME some systems do sound better at higher volumes at doing the soundstaging tricks, etc. However, with systems not properly set up or constituted, the...
Reference Recordings
Whart, Revised! But I thought all you guys were clairvoyant and would just know these things. :-)
Reference Recordings
FWIW, a few other Reference Recordings I think highly of - 1) Copland - Appalachian Springs Suite (OV for 13 instruments)2) Menotti/Barber Concerts for Violin & OrchestraBoth were recorded by Prof Johnson with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. ...
Reference Recordings
I think many of their earlier works were very good. I have not been as enthused by a lot of the later recordings which I have and rarely refer to.I agree with twoleftears re Arnold's overtures as well as his disc for Bands. I thoroughly enjoy Copl...

RV, thanks. No need for the '99 version I think.twoleftears, I think you may like the Arrau. I find this performance a bit relaxed and very enjoyable. I think you will like the fact that the piano is more spot lit than Zimmerman's. FWIW, I haven't...

RV, I'll look forward to your comments.FWIW, from an audio perspective only, something I noticed last night after hearing PC 1 and posting. I listened to PC 2 - contrary to my comments about the piano appearing left of center in PC1 (which I reche...

Well, twoleftears, something must be wrong with my system. I get no sound beyond the boundaries of my speakers, but then I don’t expect any. You can revisit what I had to say about set up in RV’s other post on imaging wherein I talk about the ’ste...
My first Tube Amplifier
First tube amp - ARC D115 II. Last SS amp -Threshold SA3. I dumped the ARC and wish I kept the Threshold.
