Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary? Dr Balance, Believe me you are blessed in not being able to hear improperly set VTA. Do you listen a lot to CD's?
Hum or buzz through speakers Sounds like a 60 cycle hum - a grounding problem most likely. Try floating the ground at your amp and see what happens. Usually it will go away. This is usually not tube noise but tubes do have a residual noise typically heard as a hiss sound. If ...
ARC sp10 joy and concern... Swampwalker is right on - I have a transformer buzz that has come and gone over the years. I think it has something to do with the quality of the power. Right now I have it on a dedicated line and its quiet - here's hoping it stays that way. Anywa...
What does a pre out do? The pre out on most integrated amps allows you to send a signal to a different amp than the one built into the integrated amp. This allows some folks to upgrade the quality of their amp but retain the preamp portion of the integrated. However this...
what is a "tape loop"? The tape out has no volume control (and in the the circuit it preceeds the pre amp volume control) so if you try to drive your amp from it you will be passing on the full signal from your source. What you can do, but I don't know why you would wan...
Jazz Recs for Classical Music Fan - Challenging Look thru the Concord Jazz catalog. They have a lot of small groups playing jazz mostly from the 70's forward. Excellent artists, if not some of the best know. The recordings are usually outstanding.
What does "good" sound like? If the differences are really substantial, as opposed to minor or subtle ones, don't underestimate the effect of your room boundries and speaker/listening position set up. Usually differences in electronics are relatively minor. Why not provide th...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary? Romy the Cat is the moniker of someone who posted often at Audio Asylym (an other places). He was very knowledgable however most of what he wanted to share was his opinion of you and your beliefs - always negative, demeaning, and provocative. Some...
Tuff decision, need help If you have friends making all of these offers I would assume the speakers must be available for audition. At the risk of asking a dumb question, why don't you just listen to them with your stuff and buy the ones you like the most?
Tuff decision, need help I've seen these on the internet for sale a couple of times a year and they seem to sell for about 1500 to 1800. They sold new for 3500 and at discount for about 2800. Sounds like his asking price is a bit stiff. Yeh, you've got to like the pinched...
Tuff decision, need help If you can get you hands on a Paragon Regent, run, don't walk (assuming the price is right)! I've had the bigger model (Jubalee/Jem) for 6 years and wouldn't part with them for the world. They replaced my Quad 63's. The only difference between thi...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary? While I have nothing substantive to add to this dialog I would think that anyone who wants their LP's to sound as good or better than CD's, and uses a line stylus, would have to pay close attention to VTA on a record by record basis. :-)
Tuff decision, need help I've always liked the 801's, however before you leap have you considered that the lack of clarity in the highs and muddy bass may be a result of improper set up and or room interface problems?
I'm frustrated with people who don't ... Shutterbug had an article in the latest issue re a comparison between medium format and a Nikon D100. Sez as a pratical matter, resolution wise, there isn't much significant difference. I couldn't tell that from looking at the pictures! I guess it...
Noise in my Speaker. Brainwater, re the reason for Newbee - I'm somewhat of a contrarian - my kid calls me Salmon because I love to go against the current of things. So in order to soften this aspect of my personality I call myself Newbee - Then its easier for someone... |
