Our home system: How good it is?
Raul, The 'only' barrier I see to an intelligent response to this last question, or my revelations at any rate, is the best answer I can come up with is something like 'this is the best system I have assembled in my home', something that is highly...
Can excellent tubes transcend modest amps?
Well I tend to agree with Audiofeil. That is not to say that the OEM tubes are WAS, just that you can usually, for just a few more dollars, get new production alternatives that will be quite suitible for you. You don't need to spend big bucks on N...
what do I change or upgrade?
Clarity and presence at high(er) volumes is one of the hallmarks of high quality equipment and equipment interface (synergy). You've got some good stuff but I don't know if its that good, or synergistic. If I had to guess which component might be ...
Do all Passive preamps exhibit this trait
Maybe that "more extension and detail" you experience with this pre-amp is exactly what makes it fatiguing and is not representative of what an high quality active pre-amp does when it does highs right. For me, highs done right, is like a star aga...
Fluctuations of the loudness of speakers???
Re E-Mail, you can just reverse the speakers by reversing cable from left to right speaker and right to left. If the problem is still anchored to the same speaker then its not a bad tube. BTW, I've never experienced fluctuating volume from a bad t...
Onix SP3
Yep, it's normal for many small tubes from Eastern Europe. My EI's love to flash. Interestingly Russians just aren't 'flashy' at all. I guess I prefer flashy tubes, just so long as they are not power tubes. :-)
Your vote: Most Useless Audio Adjective
Extended highs.I've been trying to get my mind around that term for some time. Does it mean extended bandwidth? Does it mean greater resolution or transparency of the high frequency information? Does it mean increased high frequency response, as i...
No CD with works by Alexander N. Skrjabin
So long as you are researching under that spelling you are not too likely to find much. Try 'Alexander Scriabin' and you will find much to choose from. I have in my collection the complete Etudes by Piers Lane on Hyperion, his 24 Preludes by Pizar...
good speaker with Sound stage behind????
Shadrone, Man I wouldn't own those speakers if you paid me! A FR for a maggot's lunch! :-)Seriously, and probably the subject for a different thread, but since its about a recessed stage - I have two amps which allow triode v pentode switching on ...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66
Hi Jax2, Kissin DOES make it his own, doesn't he. :-) I've got Pletnev on my order list, but I'm waiting for some more to get there before I hit the button. I'll let you know when I hear it. I'm now more curious than ever.
Superphon Basic/Rev2 or Creek OBH12
Of the two you mention, I would get the Superphon and I've never heard it. I used Creeks for a while. I found them 'additive' in that the highs became a bit edge/bright. Not as neutral as you might like, but its subtle and easy to miss. I found a ...
PERFECT 10w x 18d x 9h room, any good?
Here is a set up to try in a narrow room and has allowed me to maintain some spread between the speakers and far enuf away from the listening chair. It should give you a reasonable sound stage. Set you speakers out into the room so the fronts are ...

Power cord on audio innovations l2 pre amp
Save your money for better basic components or buy more music. Power cords are basically a tweak level component which benefits a well matched, properly set up, and resolving system. A Stringreen said, try before you buy.
A Perennial Debate For Which I Seek Help
Stringreen, You raise an interesting point about connectors/connections v wiring. FWIW I have a friend who is an astrophysist (a real rocket scientist who consults with NASA and is presently in China attending their most recent manned launch). He ...
