Does good technology guarantees musicality?
Chris, While I sort of agree with your conclusions.........What exactly does 'technically perfect' meant to you? Are you referring only to the DAC's translating the digital signal in the pits to some form of an analogue signal, or are you includin...
How to reproduce sound of piano
I just had a thought - maybe the problem is not pant flapping bass, or even deep bass, maybe it is a simple as a suck out in the upper bass. A broad and deep enuf suck out in the 60 and/or 120 hz range for example would surely rob enuf tone to mak...
How to reproduce sound of piano
I looked at Plasers room for the first time (boy am I slow or what). Setting up and integrating a sub woofer in a small room isn't a walk in the park, and IMHO, with all due respect to all, in a room this size may still not produce the sound that ...
Assessing room response
Are you asking how to use the equipment, or what equipment to get? Equipment wise, a Radio Shack analog or digital meter, a Stereophile test disc with 1/3 octave test ones using pink noise (which I prefer over pure frequency tones), a conversion l...
Village Vanguard session with Bill Evans
Chris, if the only reason I liked the Sessions was the audio reproduction aspects, I'd probably listen to Jazz at the Pawnshop. The sense of a live acoustic, the background voices, the tinkling of glasses, are all much more obvious. But then, I th...
How to reproduce sound of piano
Guido, FWIW I think that your analysis of the value of a collection of audio equipment sort of focus's on its ability to reproduce (and for you to hear when the recording engineer puts his mikes near the sound board) what is going on when you sit ...
$3000: upgrade Tyler Linbrooks or amplification?
Stewie, For the sake of argument, IMHO if you have no reference to what 'better' means (to you) how will you ever know when to stop up-grading. There is always going to be something 'better' on the horizon even if in reality its only different.IMH...
How to reproduce sound of piano
IMHO, apart from the issue of the ability of recording engineers to get it down in the first place, and getting an audio system that could make it sound real (i.e. as it would sound at a live performance) just how large would your room have to be?...
Village Vanguard session with Bill Evans
1) Yes.2) I don't understand where you are trying to take this thread, or perhaps I'm just missing the point of this thread.....Are you talking about the quality of the recordings, or are you tralking about the music and trying to make some sort o...
Village Vanguard session with Bill Evans
I was going to respond, but what can I say to improve on Cincy Bobs explaination. He really covers all of the bases, I think. I hope this will help you appreciate this music more when you hear it next. BTW, if you are so inclined, pick up the reco...
Stylus profile and surface noise
It is all about tradeoff's. If you want the smoothest sound in which neither VTA or noise is a necessary complication get a conical (can you?) or, to a lesser degree, an eliptical. If you want the last bit of detail (including the embedded noise) ...
Who was your first
"And so it has become.........." And so it has, however I reject the proposition that any discussion of the CULTURAL roots of any music are in some way latent expressions of racism. Music is what it is. Racism is what it is. They have no relations...
What would happen if?
Oh go do it. I don't think that the second set of cables left attached to the amp changes any of the parameters of the amp at all. Think about it...... But, shorting is a REAL issue! What I have done when necessary is to tape the wires with spades...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Rebbi, Yes. It only takes a couple of seconds and is instantly reversible, especially with small speakers. :-) But, keep the distance relationships between speakers and listening position more traditional...don't get them too far apart (mine are s...
EVA CASSIDY
Nobody, she is a one off who seemed to sing in so many styles/genres so effectively. I'll never listen to Judy Garland again! But there are some blues and jazz singers that are as excellent, or better, certainly different, in their specific genres...
