Speaker Technology over the last 10 years
Trelja, All that you say may be true and probably is, and I just came late to the party, but I have been astonished by the clarity brought to some boxes by introduction of tweeters like a properly integrated Dynaudio Esotar. I must admit I don't m...
distance between speakers
Clio09, Nice speakers I think. I've read about them and would like to hear them someday. I've always wanted to do business with Duke.LOL at myself. I just erased a long diatribe about how to determine how far to place speakers from the wall behind...
distance between speakers
Dcstep, You've made me curious. What should I have said? Something like "I don't know what you're reading but with my XXX years of set up experience I can assure you that the only meaningful set up theory and practice is embodied in the Sumiko set...
distance between speakers
Mockturtle, FWIW, at the risk of being accused of being a contrubutor of more meaningless information, I think what Jax's comments meant was that if your speakers were 8.3 feet apart your ears should be centered and 10 feet from each speaker, and ...
New to Classical Music - Album to try first??
Rja, FWIW, I totally agree with your comments about the Floristan Trio and their recording of the Beethoven Piano Trios. Excellent performances and recordings as well, I think, and I recommend them to anyone inclined.
Threshold S/300 power amp problems
Not to make your day more difficult, but why do you assume it was the amp? If you are hearing any sound from it at all (slight static sound) it may be working, just not getting a signal from the pre-amp.
Wattage 4 or 8 ohms?
Saving a detailed explaination for others, suffice it to say tht when I have 4 ohm speakers (speakers with a nominal impedence of 4 ohms) I assume that they have a lower minimal impedence, and I look for SS amps, of what-ever power rating, that do...
Speaker Technology over the last 10 years
Speakers are always dependent on the source. Always. Garbage in, garbage out.But that said, speakers have the greatest difference in sound from design to design and design is a moving target. Driver design has changed some and I think there are dr...
what is the rule of thirds?
Divide your room into thirds creating a grid. Then place you speakers on the 1/3d line (from the wall behind it). Bring your listening spot (your ears) out to the 1/3d line from the rear wall and equal distance from each speaker, thus creating a t...
distance between speakers
I measure from the speaker driver (tweeter) itself, not the speaker cabinet, and I think most seasoned set up folks do also. Measuring from the cabinets would introduce far too many variables and make recommendations/observations unreliable.
Jazz enthusiasts - A Joe Henderson find .....
Jim, Thanks for the recommendation. I've put it on my shopping list along with Inner Urge suggested by Synthfreek. I'm going to pick up his "Music of Antonio Carlos Jobin" as well.I also appreciate Oddmorning's comments endorsing the recording. It...
Which has greatest influence?
Jack, what you are 'matching' for the most part is pre-amp out put impedence (low is good) and amp input impedence (high is good). Too high an output impedence from the pre-amp and too low an input impedence in an amp is not so good, it will roll ...
Which has greatest influence?
An old duffer who turned 90 or finally hit 90? More likely the latter I think. :-)I do believe you could improve your systems sonics with a different pre-amp. I use the PL3 with a PL5 and combined they are excellent lacking only a little bit of ul...
90db, 7ohm speakers: tube amp recommendations?
I really don't know much about your pre-amp at all, but apart from that small bit of ignorance and considering your attraction to the potential tonal balance of the ARC amp I would recommend that you consider the Quicksilver V4's (although they mi...
Tyler Decade D1s
Out of curiosity guys, how do these D1's compare with the LSS's in the mid/upper mid range? The same as? Different? Just curious - I always thought that was the Achilles heel of mine (in my system of course).
