Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers?
@cey Looks like you have not been following the Koetsu story. They have shut down due to the death of the son, and will no longer offer product or rebuild services. Nor will they be selling to company to another to continue the line.
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers?
@cey Neither to both, although my adopted mother is Japanese and I have been to Tokyo twice. There are plenty of sellers of vintage cartridges on Ebay, and one thing I notice is that none of the cartridges are advertised as retipped, but there are...
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers?
@rauliruegas Well the Japanese did buy up much of the vintage JBL, Western Electric, McIntosh, Altec and other classic gear. Seems like they have an appreciation for the old also.
Wonder Why No Japanese Retippers?
@mijostyn Not all manufacturers/builders still exist. Ikeda does not service their direct scanner cartridges. Transfiguration no longer exists, maybe Mutech will do them? What about the classic Sony, JVC, or Audio Technica?
Mint Protractor. A Pretty Nice Alignment Tool
@chayro At the Mint site there is no longer an email link, the one there takes you to an order page is all. Also the order and associated shipping schedule stops at February of 2022. I find no threads of where anyone has purchased one past 2022. A...
Mint Protractor. A Pretty Nice Alignment Tool
@rauliruegas   Please answer this question.   The Mint protractor is built specifically for this arm. Not another arm. This one. If it traces the arc correctly, and offset is correct, and spindle hole size is correct, from my perspective thi...
Mint Protractor. A Pretty Nice Alignment Tool
@rauliruegas Well spindle to pivot is correct as the spindle is always at the same regardless of the table because the spindle is always at the center of the platter. So the size of the matter does not matter, whether it’s 10 inches, 12 inches, or...
Mint Protractor. A Pretty Nice Alignment Tool
@rauliruegas Spindle to pivot is the same regardless of the table. I am at correct spindle to pivot so the protractor arc will be accurate.
Mint Protractor. A Pretty Nice Alignment Tool
@chayro For those cases I use my camera and snap a picture. It’s easier to get low and obtain an image you can then adjust from. With my Kiseki Blackheart 1st gen this is the only way I can accomplish this. I have a Proteus also that I do this wit...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
@tomic601  The hole is pretty minimal, drilled for a Schroeder. The board is about 3/4 inch thick  acrylic, pretty inert.    The Dynavector I have is a pretty good specimen but it is a 501 MK 1 so no cue device.
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
I do like the Triplanar arm. For an arm that has so much adjustability I don’t see how to adjust the cue lever bar. This one wants to drift a bit on set down and pick up. From searches on the net this seems to be an issue others have had. With the...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
@lewm The arm effective mass is 11 grams, which is higher than I feel comfortable running the cartridge at. I never could find a vertical effective mass for the vestigial arm on the Dynavector, but I always ran the lightest head shells I could fin...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
Well back to our regular programming. Since I have a spare arm board for the SOTA and the Scheu I figured I would trial a temporary installation. I started laying out the SOTA option, and even at the eyeballing stage it can be seen that the rear s...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
@mijostyn I have a Schroder CB-1L with ebony wand on my Scheu table. I love the performance of the arm, and despise it's adjustment settings. It is criminal how primitive the counterweight setting, VTA, and antiskate adjustments are. I loathe inst...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
That is a very good question Jim. I have just a handful of cartridges I can work with. The second arm on the Scheu is a Schroder CB-1L in ebony and I will use either a Transfiguration Audio Proteus or an Ortofon Verismo. Both cartridges sound nice...
