Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
@lewm The arm effective mass is 11 grams, which is higher than I feel comfortable running the cartridge at. I never could find a vertical effective mass for the vestigial arm on the Dynavector, but I always ran the lightest head shells I could fin...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
Well back to our regular programming. Since I have a spare arm board for the SOTA and the Scheu I figured I would trial a temporary installation. I started laying out the SOTA option, and even at the eyeballing stage it can be seen that the rear s...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
@mijostyn I have a Schroder CB-1L with ebony wand on my Scheu table. I love the performance of the arm, and despise it's adjustment settings. It is criminal how primitive the counterweight setting, VTA, and antiskate adjustments are. I loathe inst...
Questions Regarding Installing a Wheaton Triplanar On A SOTA Cosmos
That is a very good question Jim. I have just a handful of cartridges I can work with. The second arm on the Scheu is a Schroder CB-1L in ebony and I will use either a Transfiguration Audio Proteus or an Ortofon Verismo. Both cartridges sound nice...

If I have to trim the upper level of the plinth the arm will go on the Scheu. That's fine too really.
Accuphase AC-3 Re-tip new cantilever vs new purchase?
I have owned an AC1 and AC3. Nice enough cartridges. However I would spend that same money with Mehran at SORASound and get the designers most current cartridges rather than one that is 30 plus years old.
As An Experiment I Stuck A Few Things Under My Pre-Amp And Am Now On A Quest
This weekend I located a set of the Chinese style mag lev footers, and placed them under the pre-amp. The Trinov has a sophisticated DSP program, and one function it has is a very precise EQ option. I decided to experiment with it. I did in depth ...
As An Experiment I Stuck A Few Things Under My Pre-Amp And Am Now On A Quest
@ghdprentice    Yes I did. Varied them down to 3 and 4 springs per puck. Used varied placement of 3 pick arrangements due to the uneven weight of the component. Not quite the solution I needed.
As An Experiment I Stuck A Few Things Under My Pre-Amp And Am Now On A Quest
Well this is a unexpected development. After about three days the foam compresses down enough that the system gets bright again.    As an experiment I cut two new pieces this evening and put them in place. Immediately the sound I am looking for ...
As An Experiment I Stuck A Few Things Under My Pre-Amp And Am Now On A Quest
@falconquest I mentioned that I used some Wagner pads in the opening post. That is what they are. Not compliant enough and does not isolate.
As An Experiment I Stuck A Few Things Under My Pre-Amp And Am Now On A Quest
First of all I do want to thank all those who have taken the time and effort to respond with their experiences and what pathways they have chosen.  As we can see there is very little consensus on how to tackle this issue. There is a whole gamut o...
Dream Amps I Could Not Afford 20 Years Ago Now Undesirable
When I was a college student in the late 1980s I dreamed of a pair of Apogee Caliper or Celestion SL600, and Martin Logan CLS. I also dreamed of a Linn LP12/Ittok/Koetsu Rosewood. I was a part time salesperson in college in an audio store and the ...
MM Phono Stages With Greater Than 40 dB of Gain?
@lewm Sounds reasonable. Tracks with I would expect for total gain needed on the phono stage combo to allow the cartridge to be at its best. With the T2000 supplying 35dB then I need 45 to 50 dB from the phono stage.
