Your First Concert was.....
Hey Double4w, I saw a lot of concerts at Pirates World, but I don't remember Led Zep there -- can't believe I missed that one. I did see them 4/10/1970 at Miami Beach Convention Hall -- still have my ticket stub.
Question about Snell B with amps and preamps
Well, I used a Levinson 27 with B Minors and it was an excellent match.
Question about Snell B with amps and preamps
Is this a Model B or B Minor?
The Most Realistic Speaker Technology?
Choice of technology basically boils down to dynamic speakers, horns, or panels, electrostatic or ribbon. Panels may be what you're looking for. They give you an almost 3-D presentation, as if the performer is standing right in front of you. The d...
Sampler CD's for speaker auditions....
I've never heard anything better than the demo disc Usher Audio gave out at the THE/Stereophile show in NYC last year.I was told it is a copy of a CD the Taiwan Audio Association puts out each year for their show for members to compare equipment. ...
Best Recording of Solo Tambourine
Probably some gypsy music . . .
Am I getting it all?
This just in . . .FWIW, in this month's Stereophile, on page 107, Fremer says, to paraphrase, that with passive preamps cable length, thus capacitance, will affect frequency response.
Am I getting it all?
Exactly, Dave (Dcstep). It's not the quality of the records, it's something wrong with Dan's set-up.Dan, here's a hint of what I'm talking about in another thread:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1200942804--Neil
Am I getting it all?
This does not make sense to me . . . comparing the same recording on LP vs. CD, I can't remember an instance when the CD sounded better than vinyl, assuming the LP is not a beat up copy. Even then, the sonics are superior on the LP.
Better than my 32" Sony Wega XBR?
CRT still beats anything out there.
Am I getting it all?
I can't imagine . . . your set-up should smoke any digital gear. Other than the passive pre, which I'm not sure how that would affect it. I assume you have adjusted the gain and impedance on the GCPH to find the best settings. Something is not rig...
Tube sound with no tubes
Maybe there's something wrong with your pre-amp. Pre-amp tubes do not fail often -- they usually last about 10,000 hours, I think. Before you give up the tube pre-amp, maybe you should check it out. I've had mine for several years with no tube fai...
Why use CD Transport instead of computer source
Tonyptony, yes it was a serious question . . . thanks. I ask because I'm running my CEC TL-1X and my SB through an Audio Logic DAC and haven't done serious comparisons as yet. There's a good reason internet radio, like Pandora, or recordings, like...
Apple Lossless Encoder - Audiophile Quality?
FWIW, at a seminar at The Home Entertainment Show in NY last year, I believe John Atkinson, Stereophile's editor, said Apple lossless is the way to go.
Your First Concert was.....
Tough to remember, but first and second (I think!) were Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf in about 1967.
