The future of new music.......
Listened to Middle Cyclone twice last night. First off, I like the songs. Especially Magpie. It is an album that will require a few listening sessions to really figure out. In terms of SQ the loudness is immediately evident. Like other newer CDs I...
The sense of smell evokes memories, while the sense of hearing evokes emotions
geoffkait, I've found that a glass of good bourbon or Scotch works as well. I'm serious.
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Last night:Music From Big PinkTupelo Honey
50 years on---the brilliance of The Band and their astounding debut album.
I also noticed that Astral Weeks and MFBP came out the same year....along with a number of other huge albums from various greats.
The sense of smell evokes memories, while the sense of hearing evokes emotions
It is my brief experience that this IS a music lovers forum. At least there are some devoted, knowledgeable, articulate and sincere music lovers here. And I feel like some of us did answer your question. At least I thought so. And I think maybe the...

I like old blues recordings. The emotional content of such music is its strong point. I do not appreciate it any more on my hi-fi system than I do my "low-fi" system.I also like some totally throw away pop music. With some of that the system doesn...
Songs where the chorus has just as much, if not more meaning than the main lyrics
Tupelo Honey comes to mind...because I just listened to it. ;-)  Strongly agree with all three above.
Your (perfect) record
Another thread here reminded me of Astral Weeks. Can't believe I forgot about it. Its in my top 2 or 3.

I kind of feel that way about Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. Very different from his other stuff, high critical acclaim, amazing musical performances by a stellar cast (jazz and studio musicians). And most general Van Morrison fans have never heard ...
Your (perfect) record
No. Can't comment on SQ really. I own two copies. The first is the vinyl I saved up for in high school. I have not listened to it since college and I'm sure it is terrible since it spent a lot of time on a record changer! The other copy is iTunes....

bdp24, thanks for the clarification on the two albums. I do not have the brown album yet. Will probably get it on CD soon. Not knowing how to ID albums and such, all I can say is that this pressing of MFBP is SKAO 2955 and is by Capital. SKAO 2955...

bdp24 I think Steve is apologizing for me, and to a lesser extent, him, for highjacking your thread.Steve, I think you are misunderstanding me. In general my comments about vinyl have _nothing_ to do with sound quality. I'm not making any vinyl SQ...
The future of new music.......
So maybe I’m confused. If the dynamic range of a recording is low how can anything in the playback chain make that dynamic range larger? And if all it takes is good equipment then why such concern from engineers and audiophiles who care about SQ? ...
BEST MALE VOCAL EVER
Sam Cooke and Lou Rawls on "Bring it on Home to Me" are indeed incomparable.
The future of new music.......
I have Fox Confessor. Loudness is over the top. Dynamic range is poor. Disappointing. I still listen to it because I like it but it sounds better with software based EQ adjustment...which is a shame. Middle Cyclone should arrive at my house soon. ...
