Ampex Model 1250 Tubed Reel-to-Reel
The 1250 is a 1/4 track one motor model vintage 1963.The belts tend to get gooey after time. Probably not worth more than $100 to buy. There are other tube tape decks out there that are a lot better. You might investigate the Revox G36 series and ...
Has anyone heard FM Acoustics
I heard a complete FM Acoustics system at the Stereophile show in San Francisco a few years back. Some of the best sound I've ever heard.
Fixing a dent in a whoffer cone
I fixed my woofer with the dust cap pushed in with a very fine metal scribe. Gently push the scribe into the dust cap from the side and gently pull until it pops out. You may have to do this from more than one position on the dust cap. And, yes, a...
Advice on New Electrical Service
Sounds like you're on the right track with the dedicated lines. I don't know that aluminum wire is still in use. It's not where I live. I'm not sure you need much else. So many conditioners restrict dynamics, etc. I would definitely recommend usin...
BI AMPING
K-horns are so efficient there is really no advantage to bi-amping them. The woofer only goes down to 32 hz in the right room.
Ungrounding an Amp--Any Danger?
Apart from what's already been said, I have found that not grounding my amplifier yields better dynamic range.
Can a component after complete breaking reverse ?
Cables do lose something when moved or not used much. Some cables use a grounding type that needs to settle in after moving. Putting a CD on in repeat when you're not otherwise listening to your system will keep cables formed properly. There are s...
system set up
Keep your CD player away from your preamp. Do not bind all your cables together.
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss?
Check the brand of tubes being used. There are most likely better brands out there. Tube brands definitely sound different from each other.
Different lenghts of CNR b'tween left/right speak
Yes there is a difference with length. Always use the same length on each channel.
Crown DC-300a & D-75. R they keeprs?
The DC300 was good for powerful deep base albeit without much definition, but a turkey for full range use. The D75 was much better. The DC60 was better still, a real sleeper in its day. The Crown preamp was the IC150 which was also a turkey. As fo...
dedicated outlets for audio equipment
Use your dedicated line for all your audio equipment. The advantage far outweighs the idea of plugging some equipment into non-dedicated outlets. By all means change this outlet to Wattagate sockets. Use your Furman strip to plug all these items i...
Speaker cable Question?
Just make sure both channels are the same length.
Has anyone tried the FK Black ate caps 10,000uf
From my experience replacing standard electrolytics with Black Gates you will get a cleaner, less bright sound. If you like this amp, it's worth it.
Am I a burning out audiophile????
A good case for keeping the old stuff and "trying" the new before making a final decision. You can always go back and compare.
