Speakers on floor? Many, if not most, speaker owners manuals of the higher end, do speak of tweeter height, at least what I have experienced. But more importantly, they speak of the listeners sweet spot, along with speaker/room interaction.
Your homemade tweaks? Each and every step you take is audible. I agree, the transformer is a great place to isolate vibrations, as well as the boards themselves. Years and years of trial, error (HK12)and patience have brought things to another level. Many of my friends...
Your homemade tweaks? I have looked at the photos, and the caulk I prefer to use is not the rope caulk, but that in the tube. My recent projects have been using GE Silicone 11, clear, available at the Depot. Rope caulk never completely dries and is harder to remove. It...
Your homemade tweaks? Corazon, I apply caulk to the cap and the pcb, so that they are both "attached" together. Interestingly, I learned this many many years ago from a tech I knew who worked at Nakamichi, but later found that this was done on many speaker crossover as...
Your homemade tweaks? Jedinite24 Although I have used rope caulk on many projects like the ones you mention, the caulk I speak of is the builders caulk used for doors and windows, or kitchen and bath use, found at your neighborhood Home Depot. I use the squeeze tubes, ...
Your homemade tweaks? I have used caulk to minimize vibration between capacitors(and other non heat producing components) and circuit boards(let it dry). A world of difference. Of course, chassis isolation(damping sheets, etc.)as well.
Why not horns? Hi Audiogon members. I am back. As the start of a new year I wish you all a great one. When I lived in NY there were a few audio clubs I belonged to. If anyone is in the Orlando Fl. area who would like to hear my system(I would listen to your's as...
Speakers on floor? When on carpet, spikes help the steadiness of the box to not move front and back when the woofer is pulsating, which is always. Never worked for me on carpet without spikes of some kind.
Help a confused newbie build his first setup... Aldres , any system you put together will be "background" listening when in another part of the house, unless you were to run some smaller speakers from an amp/speaker switcher or use a wireless system like the Rocketfish (www.bestbuy.com)to the o...
JBL B460 passive sub w/o external crossover unit You did make yourself clear in your question.....the answer was yes......
Owning too many speakers When I was selling audio equipment at Innovative Audio in Brooklyn N.Y(now in Manhattan)many many years ago, the show rooms were set up when only a single set of speakers were in the room playing at the same time. We would wheel them in and out fo...
Owning too many speakers In my largest listening area I own Klipsch Lascalas with powered subs. In another room I own Signet SL280 floor standers. A third room I have Yamaha NS20M studio monitors with Janis W3 sub woofers. In a 4th room I have Infinity towers. All the roo...
How close to the real thing? Recorded music through a sound system cannot approach live, "non amplified" musicianship. However, this is what we Audiogoners seek to achieve with our equipment purchases and room/system tweaks. I can easily get caught up into thinking how "live"...
Janis Subwoofer Help Owning a pair of W3s and very familiar with the model 1, my understanding is that John M(Janis designer)used JBL pro drivers. I have never known a Janis unit that had a deteriorating driver, unless it was not in a proper environment. Can you tell m...
Question about Morrow ICs? Hi all. Mike Morrow is correct in his statement above. My MA3s(and MA1s in another system)offer a quick, detailed and extended bass that I have never experienced before with all the cables I have listened to throughout my years. However, it is not... |
