Your Go to CD to Impress
Patricia Barber- Companion XRCD ... a stunningly good recording and Shakti's first album -- with John McLaughlin... a spectacular album with Zakir Hussein on tablas... transcendental! I was privileged to see them live in 1977 and I'll never forget...
Music Server format?
I can't tell you what's "best," but I can tell you what works for me.  First, I have a Netgear 516 NAS, currently with 8 terabytes in RAID for redundancy. The NAS is important, both for expansion and for processor strength.  Most NAS have pitifull...
What do audiophiles want from a cable?
What do audiophiles want from a cable?  For it to sound audibly different from the ones they have! LOL!
Upgrade my DAC or buy more weed?
I'd say to go with the weed first, in terms of bang for your buck.  A nice upbeat Indica strain will put you right into the music and expand it around you in a way that the DAC never could.
Modern Class A SS Integrated Amplifiers
Plinius SA 103, 102 or 100.  100 watts into 8 ohms, switchable between Class A and Class AB.  I use an SA 100 mk III on Class A when listening to music and AB when using it in the HT system.  Plinius has a nice smooth "analog" sound that is great!
UPS and FedEx freight shipping reliable?
I bought a large subwoofer that was packed by UPS and shipped by UPS.  It came in completely smashed -- knobs broken off, corners smashed . ..  They clearly had no clue how to pack anything.  My advice is that either UPS or FEDX will be fine IF it...
Best Sounding Classic Rock Cd's
Hmmm . . . surprised that two of my classic choices haven't been mentioned!Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon (I prefer the Sony Mastersound only slightly over the 24 bit new stereo mix) and Welcome to the Machine (I prefer the new stereo remaster...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@geoffkait , I think you are off base on this one.  Speakers first . . . Obviously speakers are complex interrelationships between components, crossovers, etc.  Knocking one off is not necessarily impossible but more difficult than a brass weight,...
Moto_Man's Scam Of The Week
I don't disagree that room treatments (usually absorbent) can help room acoustics.  But that being said, I would like to see the difference between this HighEnd Novum PMR Premium MkII and a bronze wok or maybe one of my copper serving bowls . . . ...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@almarg , "The real question, though, would be whether differences could be distinguished between this $6800 weight and another 3+ pound weight having similar contact area and costing say $50 or so."You are exactly right. The question is not wheth...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@geoffkait , hysterical! :)
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@tomcy6 , so true!  Pull the blindfolds out and see what reviewers say about a product! That would be embarrassing indeed!  The key is that they don't know whether they are listening to the super duper best thing since sliced bread or the same $20...
Powerful, smallish floorstanders with high WAF?
I have Focal Diablo Utopia III's and they have huge WAF and they sound great.  So everybody's happy! :)
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@agear , my music system is currently Focal Diablo Utopia III’s, a Plinius SA100mk III upgraded and reconditioned power amp, a Plinius M12 upgraded and reconditioned pre, and a Naim NDX to stream music (FLAC or DSD, as available) from my server to...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
@geoffkait , "Something tells me the only ones who are hot to trot to conduct double blind tests are the ones who’ve already made their minds up, you know, the died in wool skeptics. Skeptics claim these outlandish audiophile gadgets can’t pass a ...
