Al, I think that AudiogoN should hire you, (or at least pay you) for all of your wise and sane research!
Record cleaning fluids
I've seen Holly's DIY RCM and it's really pretty cool. I was very impressed.I have been planning on trying the AIVS #6 solution, once all of my L'Art Du Son is gone. Might be awhile...

Welcome to AudiogoN, Annalisa! We're all crazy on this bus, so be careful :-)
Change a 2 channel amp to a mono block amp
Unless the stereo amp is configured internally for mono operation, you can NOT bridge it. Don't even try, flash...puff...smoke and maybe a tripped circuit breaker.20 or 30 years ago, there was a company that made a little box that supposedly would...
Cary SLP98P not working with Audio Research VT100
Ralph...the OP does state that when he hooks up his OPPO 105 direct to the ARC amp, it works fine.I think it has something to do with the output impedance of the Cary and the input impedance of the ARC amp and the cables used to attached them? It ...
Audio Research pre-amps?
The ARC LS3 is a solid state preamp. Almost any tube preamp, (whether ARC or not) will add a touch or more of warmth and soften up the brightness.
Pre-amp or cd direct to XA30.5 ?
As long as the source device has VARIABLE volume control, sure you can go direct into the XA-30.5 amp. Some sources have both fixed and variable outputs. Make sure you use the correct one!
Any good FM tuners around for less than $200?
I still use a Sumo "Charlie the Tuner" and love it. I think they run around $200 used, if you can find a good clean one.The Magnum Dynalabs that Peter references above are excellent also.
IKEA's EXPEDIT Series might be discontinued
Thanks for the info!I read a lot of the info on the attached link that the OP has above. There will/is a replacement in the Kallax series. Internet bloggers says it's not quite as thick at the sides, but there was a response from Ikea saying that ...
Record cleaning fluids
I have been using the L'Art Du Son for several years now, (with a BIG thanks to Audiogoner Theo. He has tried a bunch of different fluids and had a batch of this left over. He now uses the Walker 19 step process. Just kidding on the 19 steps, but ...
Silicone fluid for Moerch tonearm damping?
Holly...I didn't know what "hors de combat" meant either. I had to look it up. It means "outside the fight".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hors_de_combatGlad to hear you finally got your cartridge!
Seeking some guidance on Sinatra
You didn't state whether you are looking for LPs or CDs or downloads, but if you want vinyl, Mobile Fidelity has reissued a lot of Frank's albums. I have all of them and most of them are stunning. My favorites:Swingin' SessionsThe Concert SinatraNi...
Sony - What were you thinking?
Another down side to at least the $2000 unit, (not sure on the other ones) is that is has no digital output. So you have to use the built-in DAC on the unit and can't connect your outboard DAC, if you have one.
XLR or RCA?
I would like to add to what Al says above in that the XLR connector itself is much better than most of the RCA connectors. IMHO, better than even the locking RCAs. Another potential added benefit to using balanced cables.
