My stereo receiver is a little too bright. Can a cable help me out?
is original vintage gear < = or > than modern gear- is refurbished vintage gear < = or > than modern gearDepends. Can't make blanket statements like that. Some vintage gear is better than some modern gear. And vice versa. With refurbis...
Why go out???
Tarantino filmed The Hateful Eight in Cinemascope (? or whatever technically it is, 70mm anyway) and there was a whole big deal about it being released and projected in 70mm which really is a big deal when done right. But as it turned out not only...
Point of diminishing return for a DAC
Get some Synergistic Research ECT, stick a couple on your whatever. If your DAC has a fuse, replace it with SR Orange. You might also try a better interconnect and power cord. In terms of diminishing returns its all downhill from there.
Speaker Placement and Room Treatment - Feedback wanted.
Well the length is almost exactly twice the height. All room have mode areas where frequencies reinforce or cancel. The high ones are no problem or are easily controlled. The lower once though you pretty much have to live with. There's tables you ...
Miracles in Audio, by luck, by good choices,by design or by tweaking...
Its good mahgister that you figured out what a waste of time he is. Many think its harmless fun. But its not. Malevolent word-salad jokers like him make it easy to dismiss and hard to take seriously when sincere audio investigators like you come a...
Songs to lift that mood/score that struggle
Have you tried The Boomtown Rats, I Don't Like Mondays?
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion.
I was first gonna slam and then epically eviscerate ieales (with one hand tied behind my back) for that first one. But then came this:As a composer friend once opined after hearing my system and enquiring "Those little speakers aren’t putting out ...
current 2019 value of a mark levinson 9
You mean to be cordial? Or do you actually really want a Mark Levinson?
Considering Rogue Audio or P.S. Audio
By the time you add sufficiently good enough interconnect and power cord separates are so cost prohibitive relative to equally good or better integrateds I would look at something like the Raven Reflection MkII integrated long before I would even ...
Beginner audiophile pre-amp/receiver recommendations
Getting ahead of yourself. Needs clarification. Ceiling speakers and receivers are about as low-fi as you can get. Basically any signal whatsoever getting to them is as good as any other. For stereo however, huge difference. So I would set aside ev...
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
Oh wait, what’s this? I don’t use anti-skating, just twisting the cable going to the junction box. Actually knew that was there but only just now decided to use it. Classic example of why however good VPI are I’d never recommend one for the arm. T...
INNER GROOVE DISTORTION
Forty years ago at WSU my stereo skills were known so far and wide I had strangers calling me up for advice. Usually a few questions and boom problem solved. One time though I was thirsty, I can fix it, for a beer. When I already knew the fix. And...
My stereo receiver is a little too bright. Can a cable help me out?
I just had my vintage Pioneer SX-1050 refurbished.  I had a severe case of sticker shock when presented with the bill - oops!!  Which unfortunately pretty much forces me to use it. A common mistake. No not the refurbishment. Not the bill. The ...
Me vs. JL Audio - An open discussion.
I tried to read the JL article. Really, I tried. But I have this problem. Always been a problem, but seems to be getting much worse as I get older. The problem is first of all, I’m really good at spotting crap. And second of all, and this is the p...
Which belt-driven table to play Rock vinyl?
You know what I'd do? Give Peter Ledermann over at Soundsmith a call. Or just copy the above and email. His fixed coil cartridges are a fraction of the moving mass of MC. He's supposed to be coming out with a new arm designed by Schroeder and buil...
