Replacement power cord / supply for Chord Hugo / Linear PS
Even battery powered systems get line noise unless the line is physically disconnected. An earlier version of my turntable used a battery powered motor with a relay designed to do just this, physically disconnect from AC when the motor is on.Its p...
Value of mint condition first pressing of Sgt. Pepper?
3- sound qualityBut Tom Port has a lock on that.
Does raising speaker cables off the floor really make a big difference?
I grew up in the 70's on Stereo Review and Julian Hirsch and so of course knew beyond any doubt that if the wire is thick enough and the frequency response is flat enough and the power is watts enough then that's all that matters. I mean this was ...
More questions about dedicated lines
Ouch. Oh well. There are those who "know" because they "think" and there are those who know because they have done- AND HEARD.I find solace in thinking those who throw away vast sums on bad advice have such vast sums they won’t even notice. One thi...
Are "streamers" the new "transports"?
In digital, its always something new. The King is dead. Long live the King.
Does it pay to upgrade tubes in power supply of preamp??
That rectifier tube would probably have the biggest effect, so start there.Yup.
Value of mint condition first pressing of Sgt. Pepper?
I'm with GK on this one. As for value, doesn't have to be first pressing to be worth a lot. Just has to sound good. Really, really good. https://www.better-records.com/product.aspx?pf_id=beatlsgtpe_1910_1
New upper trim level Corvette or seven year old used amps?
Great choice millercarbon. They started galvanizing the cars in 78 which abolished the rust problem. You are however due for an engine rebuild if you have not done it already. It will cost you 10 to 15K. Just giving you the warning if you are not ...
Bang for the Buck
Not only ancillary, but a lot also depends on what you'll be using it with.
Speaker Cables and Internal Speaker Wiring
Its always better to use the better wire.
Recommendation for an audiophile speaker cord that is not "bright"?
I have yet to see one that was bright. Most of them are black!
Upgrading my beginner setup and not sure how to allocate funds. New cart, table or amp?
I am looking to spend roughly $1500, though could maybe spend more if I stagger my purchases (i.e. buy a new cart now, buy an amp later, etc.). Staggered upgrades- great idea! That's how I did it. If you do decide to go with the cartridge first...
channel separation
Do you have any idea what 50 dB channel separation is like? For comparison, a lot of ultra high end phono cartridges have only about 30 dB. 50 is huge.Channel separation is but one of a whole long list of more or less irrelevant measurements. Actua...
New upper trim level Corvette or seven year old used amps?
At 16 with little money the choice was literally a car or a stereo. A car looked to me like a money pit. Especially the kind of used cars a 16 year old can afford. Not that things have changed much. A new car today is reliable but gas, insurance, ...
Best way to handle huge bay windows on the left side of the speakers only
The best most sure-fire approach will be to buy one 2x3 ft 1" thick panel of Owens Corning acoustic panel. Light, inexpensive, highly absorptive and super easy to move around. You probably won't want a full panel in the end but a full panel will m...
