Music bleeding at zero volume
Holy crap! Turning down the DAC/pre is another word for attenuating the signal is another word for lowering the volume is another word for reducing the signal. Reduce, lower, down, these are not the same as cut, off, eliminate. The volume turned d...

He meant dissonant but I get his drift and he is right, its just what I said above, SS odd order harmonics simply do not sound as good.
What piece(s) of gear did you sell/give away that you would like to have back?
Sellers remorse? Nah man, alien concept. If it's worth keeping why would I sell it? Unless hard up for cash, which to me would be such a painful lesson it would never be repeated ever again. Like the one time I had a Yamaha RD-350 and a Datsun 240...
5 cartridges - Cello, vdH, Benz, Zu, Hana - what stays and what goes?
Learn how to mount a cartridge for yourself and keep them all until you have had ample time to evaluate each one in your particular system. At that point, you may want to sell one or two, but the decision will be wholly yours. THIS!!Mounting ...

Sorry if you said this already and I missed it misty. But its been a while and wondering what if any changes you've noticed. Mine (Moabs) were great right out of the box and did improve but seemed to follow Eric's guidance of only about 50 hours b...
Your shipping wrecks. USPS,FED-EX and UPS
Got a friend working for UPS, he's a new hire driving a rented truck working six days 12 hours and they ran short of uniforms. Apparently they are so busy they have had to reduce pickups even for some large shippers. I've gotten my stuff just fine...
Are there speakers with cloth/soft enclosures instead of wood?
SpeakerLab tried a cloth speaker back in the 90's. Put a lot of money into it. Got hung out to dry.
Whats on your turntable tonight?

The distortion the valves offer, are the perfect form of chaos when they are done right.   There is a reason for this. Tubes, and analog devices in general, tend to the same even order harmonics that are so prevalent in nature. Everything from vi...
"Musical" subwoofers? Advice please on comparing JL subs
Almost forgot. There is one sense in which timing matters. Because the benefit of DBA is multiple locations creates multiple smooth small modes. Moving subs around moves the modes around. But the modes can also be moved around by changing the timi...
"Musical" subwoofers? Advice please on comparing JL subs
No timing issues. Impossible to have timing issues with a sub. Simply cannot happen.  Let me clarify that. Its impossible to have timing issues if you mean in the sense its so critically important to midrange and treble, in particular with imaging...
Overrated/Underrated
Overrated:  Mark Levinson!   Krell   speakers (in general)

Well said. If we trace this all the way back to its roots we find at its heart a twisted desire to place what we can measure above what we actually experience. Everyone but everyone actually experiences the superior lifelike depth and quality of t...
I bought some Owens Corning 703. Now what?
Curious to know how much if any of this the people offering advice above have actually done?   These are the same panels, only mine are 1" thick. https://www.theanalogdept.com/c_miller.htm This was a long time ago. 2004 according to the fellow who...
