Aesthetix MIMAS I heard it at AXPONA, in one of my two favorite rooms there. Very natural sound, just lovely. If memory serves, it was paired with Aerial 6t speakers.
Kimber 12tc incompatibility with ayre my-r twenty I mis-typed when I wrote: "The cables with low capacitance *and* low resistance were the Belden 5000UE and 5T00UP." I should have said that they are the cables with low capacitance and low inductance.
Kimber 12tc incompatibility with ayre my-r twenty A while ago, I collected RCL values for a bunch of speaker cables. Many manufacturers don’t provide them, so mine is a short list. All the cables had low resistance, < 0.005 ohms/ft.The highest capacitance were the Goertz MI-2 Velocity (317 pf/f...
Is there an affordable long run XLR preamp to amp cable out there? I don't understand the concern about pin 2 or pin 3 hot when it comes to cables. In either case, pin 1 is signal ground, and if a cable is wired straight-through (pin 2 to 2 and 3 to 3), it will work fine with either system.
Oregon Audiophiles... Let me say one more thing about the Portland Audio Club. The philosophies I try to keep to as organizer are (1) let's get to know -- and learn from -- one another, (2) everyone's system sounds good to them, (3) what is "best" (in audio as in music...
Oregon Audiophiles... Eric, Have you tried Belmont Station on SE Stark Street around 45th? They have many, many brands.
Oregon Audiophiles... Eric, Yes! (We definitely have both.) --Mike
Is there an affordable long run XLR preamp to amp cable out there? I’m very happy with 25-foot cables made with Mogami W2549 and Neutrik XLRs, put together to order by Pro Audio LA. (I think the pair ran $105, including freight.) I recently auditioned some "audiophile" $2200 cables and they were not nearly as go...
Product purchasing decisions based on manufacturer’s proximity I recently was in the market for a preamp with DSP. Front-runners were the DSPeaker X4 and the Anthem STR. It was easier to audition the Anthem (local dealer), and I do like that it's designed, made, and supported in North America. So I auditioned...
Oregon Audiophiles... Hey, all! This is to remind fellow Oregonians that the Portland Audio Club is still meeting monthly. We would love to have you with us! The PAC is a great place to trade stories with other audiophiles, to get to know people, and to hear a variety ...
Is DEQX a game changer? Another unit those considering DEQX might audition is the Anthem STR Preamplifier. It is far simpler to operate, and its digital room correction is done at 192 kHz. My ears say it's an excellent preamp at any cost. I'm making no judgement about w...
Cardas Cables vs Wireworld Cables +1 Erik. My experience (after 50 yrs of this) is also that "room acoustics are 100x a better investment than cable swapping." Cables make small differences that may or may not suit your specific setup. An equal investment in room acoustics is almo...
Classical Music for Aficionados I like the O’Conor Beethoven sonatas, too. I also like a newer set by András Schiff on ECM. It’s been a while since I listened to them, but as I recall, the sound is typical ECM (slightly more beautiful than reality), and the performances reasonab...
Classical Music for Aficionados Has anyone listened to Derzhavina playing Haydn Piano sonatas yet as I did yesterday and have to say I enjoyed them very much. She has a brilliant tecnique and she brings out the quirkiness of Haydn’s writing. Regarding Derzhavina’s Haydn disc, I...
Anthem getting into two channel with new STR pre-amp-- anyone heard it? My local dealer doesn't stock the STR Preamp, but when I told him an online merchant offers a 60d trial and 2-day shipping, he agreed to match the terms. On arrival, I fed it burn-in tones for about 150 hrs. I don't believe in that, but to my ears... |
