How Good Is Audio Quality When Using An Amp's Bluetooth Connection
Bluetooth is generally inferior to wired or WiFi connection. If both sides support aptX, quality takes a step up; if they support LDAC, another small step. Still, for my main system, I'd prefer an uncompressed connection. At AXPONA, Audioengine was...
Want a new amp but what to get?
For a good match, why not the Anthem STR amp? I have found that sometimes mating amp and preamp from the same company can give synergy.Another choice of a well-built amp that will last a long time is the Bryston 4B3. I am using that with the STR p...
Question about internet connection to streamer
I do want to add that defective Ethernet cables are more common than one might think. I wasted about a day troubleshooting a problem before finding a defective generic Cat 5e cable. When I replaced the cable with another Cat 5e cable, the problem ...
Question about internet connection to streamer
This is a controversial subject. Many of us (and science) hold that any decent Ethernet cable will work. After all, audio has a relatively low data rate compared to modern Ethernet. I favor Cat 5e and Cat 6. Blue Jeans Cable tests and certifies th...

Suggestions for Harbeth P3ESR speakers
Honestly, I’d look into a sub first; then change the amp. Even a Boulder amp is not going to give the P3 any low end. Not to detract from the need for more power, but that would be my priority. What’s important in the sub is to choose a sealed one,...
What brands tend to have the worst resale value?
Any brand that changes models frequently.
Suggestions for Harbeth P3ESR speakers
I agree with @yogiboy that a sub will open up the P3s. Adding a (used) B&W ASW610 to my P3s made a big difference. I chose a sealed-box sub to mate with the sealed-box P3s.I’m using a powerful amplifier (Marsh A400s), and I like the combinatio...
Streamer choices and help
Here is an idea. Your Sonos has a reclocker, and you like it. With my previous streamer (Aries femto) and DAC (Classe CP-800), adding a reclocker improved the immediacy of the sound considerably, to my ears. So maybe a reclocker could bring the No...
Top Notch Desktop System
Regarding room correction, the miniDSP SHD series offers an incredible feature set at its price (~US$1200). It includes xover software and extra outputs to make integrating one or two subs easier, Dirac correction for adjusting balance system-wide...
Top Notch Desktop System
Regarding the KEF LS-50, clearly a matter of taste. It won many awards. Objectively, the Soundstage measurements show a broad rise in response in the 2kHz-7kHz range. Whether this will be pleasing or the reverse will depend on the room, sound pref...
Top Notch Desktop System
I use Harbeth P3ESR in my desktop system. (I have them on the inexpensive DS2 rubber stands from Audioengine.) After having the Harbeths for a while, I added a B&W 10" subwoofer (ASW610) I found used on Audiogon. This makes a great desktop sys...
The best speaker for a small room...at any price point.
Do you like electrostatics? If so, consider either of the Janszen models. The controlled directivity minimizes wall and ceiling interactions, which is helpful in a small room. They sound great, too!  --very low distortion and maximum transparency.
Best sounding CD (or hi=rez). jazz releases?
McCoy Tyner’s 1970s album Sama Layuca sounds great to me even today -- I use the CD as a demo disc when friends come over. The title tune is a showcase of percussion sounds and wonderful playing. It may not sound quite as pristine as an audiophile-...
What are the advantages to a Class A amp & what are the trade offs?
Never buy based on design, etc. Buy based on how it sounds. +1 to that by @millercarbon. I see many audiophiles who pay a lot of attention to the particular technology used in a product. To a large degree, the sound of a product comes from genera...
