Budget External DAC Recommendations
I would continue to use the internal DAC and save up money for a more significant upgrade.
Could someone help figure out a setup?
As far as I know Parts Express offers different Dayton subs(8", 10", 12" and the aforementioned 15"). If you purchase the Audioengine  speakers then you might do well with the Audioengine sub.   At your budget my suggestion would be to purchase th...
Speakers for triode tube amps
Well, it seems to me that a true 8ohm speaker is one that doesn't drop below 5ohms, making it 25wpc tube amp suitable providing the sensitivity of said speaker is commensurate with room size and listening distance from speakers. The unknown herein...
The first system you had that was "high end/audiophile", by you standards
@ihasaguy In 1970 I put together much the same system, except for the speakers which in my case was the Pioneer 63DXs. ALso a Teac 4010s R2R. I used the Shure V15 type II cartridge with the Dual 1219. I thought the Sansui AU555 to be a great integ...

Must agree that an inexpensive outboard DAC would be a great improvement over use of the computer 3.5mm output.

@tomic601  No, I bought it from a dealer in Murphysboro, Illinois. Still own the Sonograph w/sumiko arm.  In storage,  not been in my current system.

+1 twoleftears.  One could purchase the speakers 1st then the sub later. The audioengine one would be a match, however one could also look into the Dayton Audio subs offered by Parts Express.
Basic NAD Vs. Bells/Whistles Marantz Int. Amp

Alternate to Benchmark Dac 1?
You are welcome.
Is your now then?
My 1st exposure to a 'high-end' system was in 1969. Consisted of:AR3a speakers, Dynaco ST-70 amp, Dynaco PAS3 preamp, AR XA turntable. Doubt it could compare to my current system. That said, I can't help to think that I would enjoy the older syste...
Alternate to Benchmark Dac 1?
Another DAC that would provide a different presentation (less clinical) would be a MHDT DAC. The Canary is ~$800 new.
Very new to high end audio - Recomendations
Well, congrats are in order!
Bryston Bda-3 and Audiophilleo
I am one to agree with spatialking. I also had the A/wPP and the BDA-1. When I purchased a new DAC the USB input was improved over the one in the BDA-1 (asynchronous). Sold the A/wPP and the BDA-1. Never did a comparison between the A/wPP and the ...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners?
I would keep the Oppo for the few SACDs you own and purchase a dedicated CD transport. I remain in search of a steamer for background music and to discover new music (CDs) to purchase.
