Another "Best" amplifier Question. I hit the post button too soon. The Music Fidelity M5si also has a phonostage and USB DAC. 180wpc into 8 ohms. Audio Advisor caries it and has a silver one discounted as open box. I am not familiar with the Yamaha or Marantz units you are cons...
Another "Best" amplifier Question. At your price point the best option would be an integrated amplifier. The Music Fidelity M5si mentioned by russ69 would be one choice. Another would be the Rogue Sphinx V3 which delivers 100wpc into 8ohms and 200wpc into 40hms and has a good P...
Sensitivity 86 v 90 The reason is that the impedance spectrum across the frequency range of the new speakers represents an easier load to your tube amplifier in addition to the fact that the true sensitivity is only 1dB difference, as per @atmasphere.
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! Yes, If I had a larger room I would love to try the 1.7i. In my room I am truly enjoying my LSR+s.
Class A Integrated amps Isn't the Fisher receiver tubed based? Klipsch speakers sound great with tube amplification. Another option if not wanting tube amp would be the Pathos Classic One MKIII. It is a tube/SS hybrid. If sticking to a class A SS design then the Sugde...
What to try? The KLH Model Five has a 6ohm impedance with a low impedance 0f 3.5. It has a sensitivity of 88-89 at 1 watt. Of your three listed integrateds, and given my interpretation of your quest, I believe the Pathos to be the best choice. Another possib...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! I should add that the cost of entry made the decision to have the Maggie experience an easier one. Had I a larger room I may have go up to the .7 or even the 1.7i. Of course then I would likely need an amplifier other than the XA25. Not due to the...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! @arafiq Thanks for the congrats and this post. I went with the LRS+ due to room size and placement of system that dictated a more near field situation than Magnepan recommends. Currently I am close to a 7' equilateral situation. I have only a s...
Question: Sound Treatment behind the Listener? I have a 48x56" Rockwool sound absorption panel installed into the wall behind my listening chair. Covered by a print of the Grand Tetons taken at 10,000' . In another room I was forced to vacate I had a closet the length of the wall behind. I p...
Is the XA25 a realistic option for LRS’s? @j_andrews Please keep in mind that I have only played the speaker/amp combo 1 day. I do love the results so far and will keep you informed of further thoughts. Also can vouch for the XA25/Fritz combo. Also provides great sonics and Fritz speake...
Is the XA25 a realistic option for LRS’s? I remember the time (60s-70s) when many advise that 50% should be allocated to speakers when considering budget. Boy do use of Maggies turn that around! I am at 5x amplifier to speakers let alone the preamp cost.
Recommendations for modern integrated with tone & balance controls other than Mcintosh Sounds like a great way to have both SS and tube amplification at one's disposal.
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! @jjss49 I don't have subs. Maybe give that a try in the future. I own Tannoy Sterlings which are used in our living room system. I also own two pairs of stand mounts, Esoteric MG10s which were my main speakers over the last 10 years, and Fritz Car...
Thinking of Magnepan ... finally! @campoly @krelldreams Thanks! I find the Maggies to sound very articulate with the XA-25. Extended highs without grain, wonderful midrange, enough bass in my small room to satisfy, not earth shaking however precise.
I feel it is time to upgrade my 1977 system....... Given the specs of your speakers you could consider tube based amplification. If interested in that I suggest you look into Aric Audio as one option. Great gear and great guy to work with. I you went with a tube pre and amp or integrated I would... |
