Integrated Amp Shopping Decisions
I would not be concerned about the increased power of the Parasound it meets your needs and can be found at your budget.
Integrated Amp Shopping Decisions
I own both the Rogue Shinx V3 and a Yamaha A-S701 which is the same as the 801 regarding amplification and phonostage however the DACs are different.  The Rogue is superior sonically and has a better phonostage.  Also the Outlaw may be a viable ...
Warm, Lush Laid-Back Smaller Floor Standers?
Given you like most of what you have, I like the idea of adding a couple of subwoofers. In that size room they will bring the desired bass and add warmth to the presentation.
What speakers work with low wattage class A amps
+1 erik. I use a Pass XA25 with Fritz Carbon 7s. Aldo a EL34 PP tube amp.
Buy new or repair? Budget $600 ish, existing Nakamichi RE-1
Given your source components and budget my advice is to purchase a Yamaha A-S801 integrated amplifier. They have an internal DAC with coax for your cd player,  optical for tv, USB for computer, and an phonostage for your TT.  Keep your speakers fo...
Aric Audio's Motherlode II line-stage keep me up all last night
@yoby I was going to have the variable gain control replaced with a resistor based one and upgrade capacitors and resistors.
Aric Audio's Motherlode II line-stage keep me up all last night
@earthbound Looking forward to your impressions of the latest version of your Super preamp. I own Aric's special, an early version of the Super. Planning on Aric upgrading some parts on it.
What are some good things to do when going to an audition
In addition to the advice provided by whipsaw, if audition is for speakers bring the amplifier you are going to use with them. +1 on a trial in your own home as being ideal.
transport/dac vs integrated player
I would think that if one were to make several comparisons of a CD player  against  a combination of a transport and DAC  at the same price point one may find some players that sound better. A savings result from both cost and effort in finding th...
Need advice on building a system from a mishmash of components!
I would keep the Totem and B&W speakers, the Mac amplifier, the tube preamp,  the TT and CD player and tuner. The Maggies may require a different amplifier. Purchase an outboard phonostage that mates well with the Grado cartridge. Put a syst...
Speaker Cables for FRITZ Carbon 7 SE mk2
I own the Carbon7se MKII and use Kimber 8TC speaker cables (purchased used) between them and my Pass XA25 or Aric Audio Transcend tube amplifier used in rotation. Also don't feel the need for subwoofers in my 12 x 15' room. Seems to me you have a...
My experience with the First Watt F7
@helomech I agree with your thoughts on the Carbon 7s. I listen to mostly Jazz and light rock (no heavy metal) with them so can't say much regarding their performance on much more complex music.  I drive my XA25 with a Aric Audio Special 6SN7 tub...
My experience with the First Watt F7
I own the Fritz Carbon 7SE MK2 and use it with the Pass Xa25. I would think they would be great with the F7 as well, even considering the differences between the two amps.  I believe your issue is the impedance of the AVA preamp. As stated above ...
Pass Labs Int 25 vs Int 60
@kastor77 I would think so unless the room is quite large. Sensitivity specs for speakers are often reported  higher than actually measured under real world conditions.  I have driven my Esoteric MG-10s with the XA25 in a 12x15' room with no prob...
Macintosch 8950 or parasound a21
For Maggies I would go with the Parasound 21. May need the additional power. The new version is the 21+.  I take it the LM508 has preamp outputs for the 21. I would use the LM 505 for the other speakers.
