How much acoustic room treatment
Often when tuning one need to over-tune then 'dial' back to identify the 'ideal' ( given that, in reference to room tuning, the ideal is an average across recordings).
Why have the prices of Marantz and Sansui speakers have gone up so much? Whyyyy???
I would never pay the current asking price on the Pioneer CS-63DX speakers currently offered online. I purchased a pair of them in 1970 (in the Navy on Okinawa, so highly discounted). Nor any of the other Pioneer or Sansui models of that vintage. ...
Budget DAC ‘18
Given that you don't need USB and are willing to buy used I would search for an older DAC(+2010) having a robust power supply and quality analog output stage. Benchmark DAC1, PS Audio Digital Link III. Schitt Bifrost multibit, to name three, and t...
Shiit Loki
Since receiving my Loki, I have only used it with the modest Schiit  Magni headphone amp driving HiFiman 400s headphones. I enjoy the bass boost it can provide with this combo. I believe it will prove to be of benefit to many headphone systems and...
CD player with USB and Coaxial out - does such a thing exist?
The M2Tech HiFace is a good converter. No need for a USB cable as it's input is a USB A male connection. Comes with either RCA or AES/BCN output (When searching watch this). Can be found on Ebay or here on AG for under $100. The MS V-links are als...
Suggestions from all you wise ones
It seems to me that you are happy with your current setup. One thing not mentioned is what you use to play the ~4000 CDs. Possibilities exist for improvement in the digital arena without making other changes to your system.  What player do you use...
Dac options with Chromecast Audio SUB $500
It's been over a year since I last responded to this thread. That said, one other great DAC for those not needing USB input, that can be purchased for ~$300 used, is the PS Audio Digital Link III. Has RCA and XLR outputs, robust power supply, and ...
First HiFi system - questions
Regarding power to your equipment, I would consider running more than one dedicated line. At least one for analog and one for digital. I would also try running the amp without power conditioning prior to purchasing one.  I would try comparing the ...
Upgrade advice wanted - Replace Sony DA777ES or use as amp?
It seems then that you have a 2 channel system. Does the Sony still work as an line level integrated? If it only works as an amp, I see no reason not to use it that way, and spend your money on the processing side. What processing do you need?
Shiit Loki
I will likely use my Loki with my headphone system, though also try it with my secondary one between DAC and integrated. Mine is to be delivered by Tuesday April 3. Will get back on this.
Power amp/integrated amp suggestions for SUPER POWER HUNGRY/INEFFICIENT SPEAKERS
I think you did well with the McCormack DNA 0.5. Check out Brown Audio Labs for a tube preamp. Also Quicksilver. I believe both offer new models at $1000. Other might appear used under that figure.Good luck!
Appropriate quality interconnect between Oppo 203 and Denon AVR? Suggestions please!
What interconnects were used in the comparison? In general I spend about 10% of the cost of the two items to be connected on the connecting cable. Other opinions will vary greatly. In your case I would not put full value to the AVR as much of its p...
Just confused about where to start
I see no reason that the Lyr2 could not be used as a preamp for an amplifier. I suggest starting another thread requesting input for an amplifier to be used with your Snell speakers.
Just confused about where to start
I my opinion, given a 100 sq ft room and a budget of $1500 for a pair of used speakers, I would purchase a pair of stand mount 2-ways. Given the subjectivity, I find it difficult to recommend speakers. I love my Esoteric MG 10s and will not part w...
I'm looking for inexpensive bookshelf speakers.
Yes schubert, I appreciate your point. However, the OP has never gotten back since his 6/16/2005 post. Given all the advice, one tends to wonder what he/she decided.
