Separates or Receiver to modernize home theater? Just to clarify the on screen info issue - HDMI from the Oppo to the TV will carry video only, including onscreen info from the Oppo.Where you loose is onscreen info from the Anthem. To get it, you need to run a separate video cable (of any qualit...
Separates or Receiver to modernize home theater? I'm not sure I'd change anything, assuming the Anthem pre has multi-channel analogue inputs. The oppo I assume has multi-channel outputs, which will handle any/all dolby/dts formats audio. Just use the Oppo as the decoder. As far as HDMI goes, it's...
Recommendations for a used Receiver Arcam AVR350 Should be around $800 used.
Suggestions please: upgrade from Dynaudio S1.4 If you love what you've got, don't mess with it. Price is not a good indicator in system matching. Lots of people use lower priced monitors with high end electronics. Good speakers don't need to cost big bucks. If you're simply looking for more bo...
Relate sensitivity/impedance to speaker efficiency The simple answer is the sensitivity is the sound pressure level with 1 watt of amplification at a specific frequency. Given 3db is a perceived doubling of loudness, going from 87 to 90 means the latter will sound twice as loud with the same power...
USB vs s/pdif I'm using USB with a moon 100d which is asynchronous. Moving to a decent USB cable made a lot of difference. Tried toslink, which was OK, but I prefer the USB route.
What is “warmth” and how do you get it? I have no idea how you 'make' warmth, but to me it sounds full bodied, textural, with a slightly plump bottom end, strings have bite, the top end is airy and delicate, without any hint of harshness. Too many components today are the opposite - str...
Best used DAC around $500 I use a Moon 100d which retails new for $600. Very nice.
Is it hard on my amp to be driving 4 ohm speakers? The Sugden is about 20wpc, but a strong 20. They can struggle with a 4 ohm load and will not likely play very loud with the easiest of loads. Try the 16 ohm setting but don't expect to rock the place. The Sudgen was made quality, not quantity.
Sim Audio I-5.3 vs Anthem 225 vs Creek Destiny 2 Each of the amps you mention are nice, but can sound lean. The 5350 is a nice piece, the Destiny is better, but after a 2 week trial (with a burned in unit), I found it tends to accentuate the top end at the expense of the mid-range. I've owned an...
Integrated Amp for B&W 805 Nautilus You might look at a Exposure 2010s or 3010s
Short piece of spk wire sustitute for spk link? It's been suggested to me that the best jumpers use the same wire as the cables (where possible) to maintain the impedance etc. Not sure if it makes a difference, but anything is better than the stock jumpers. I've tried expensive custom jumpers w...
Short piece of spk wire sustitute for spk link? Yes, makes a big improvement over the brass jumpers. And it's cheap.
So what is the best speaker you have ever owned? Aerial 5's. Owned a pair for several years, sold them, went to more several more expensive speakers, and just yesterday, picked up an old pair in good shape. I'm in bliss again. The most fluid, natural mid-range and top end I've ever heard.
Help with Speaker Selection The older Linn's can sound pretty flat in the wrong set up and definitely is not a rock and roll speaker. The placement is not clear to me, but assuming it's not behind the sofa or something, you might look at Spendor, Pro-ac or Harbeth. All have ... |
