Preamp for Atma-sphere s30
I have owned a different model ARC and have heard the BAT. I would buy the BAT as it more suits my taste. I dare not criticize ARC in these forums, so I will just say I like the BAT sound better. Either will give you a very clean open and 3D sound...
Looking for a suggestion for a good Phono Stage
Yes PBN that may be your "job"... as such, you are a professional who stands to gain from a suggestion involving a product you sell. Such a suggestion must be a biased, even if a good one. Having a motive without saying "dealer disclaimer" or the ...
Looking for a suggestion for a good Phono Stage
I think your Mag input is intended for an MM cart., so if you are running it striaght in, without a separate phono stage, that is correct. If not, you may be phono amplifying your phono stage, which should amount to an unacceptable amt. of gain an...
Von Schweikert VR2 or Revel Performa F50
VR2s don't sound anything like the Focals. I own VR2s and JM Lab Electras and the differences are profound. The VR2s are much less analytical and detailedm but make very pretty music. One is not necessarily better than the other just different. If...
Can Harbeths Perform Well In Nearfield Listening?
What about the small monitors (P3ESRs) and a subwoofer for the prodigious bass he requires?
Tube Interaction in Counterpoint 3.1
Is the very high gain phono circuit fed into the line stage then out? Many older tubes can have inherently higher noise levels. I guess it is possible that the old tubes aren't really quiet and when amplifying each other (as I have supposed is pos...
amp/preamp for snell b minor
How did this thread become unearthed. Anyway what did you do Eric?
Jolida 502B correct tube allocation
To answer your question , yes there are very significant differences between the NOS and the current Mullard branded tubes. The current "reissues" are made in Russia and evidently come from the same manufacturers as do Sovtek, they are now called ...
Looking for a suggestion for a good Phono Stage
That budget kind of limits things, I can't think of anything other than a Bellari with it's single tube, sorry.
Are High End Audio Products Unreliable?
Come to think of it a couple of CD players did die on me. I was told this was a common problem with the reading mechanisms. They were on the cheap side of "high end" but cost a fortune compared to "regular" cd players.
how to a/b test turntables
Don't even look and tell the dealer to play one of them at random then the other and see if you can tell.
Are High End Audio Products Unreliable?
So far most everything has worked out well. I have had very few problems over the years except with some "vintage" gear and some self inflicted wounds. It sounds like you have had a string of bad lick. OTOH this industry now is pretty small in man...
Any Bryston B100 owners? Help please
An amps gain is not the same as wattage. The number of watts needed to play loud has more to do with it's tendancy to clip/distort at loud volumes. I did note that this piece does have some kind of software controlled volume so there may be an iss...
Looking for a suggestion for a good Phono Stage
Which Grado are you talking about and what are the specs, like out put and impedance? How much do you want to spend? What are you looking for from this Phono stage the ARC doesn't give you? I am sure if you specify these things the analog guys wil...
What 6922 tube will improve bass definition?
No one has characterized the GL as a hard sounding tube. It is invariably described as being on the warmer side of neutral, this is why I suggest that tube. I know very well what Sovteks sound like and they almost alone sent me into tube collectin...
