Analyzing DACs
@jasonbourne52 - There’s a review by Goldensound for the Denafrips Ares II that includes measurements that demonstrate the oversampling slow filter having some very unexpected and the fast filter appearing to measuring as expected.  The recommenda...
What CDs to buy
Here’s a few of my favorites: Jacques Loussier Trio - The Brandenburg Concertos or Best of Play Bach Allan Taylor Looking for You
Where does "MidFi" differ from "HiFi" or "LOFI"?
You might have a HiFi system if your suggestion to someone asking for advice for a specific component upgrade is to try difference cables or room treatments.
Looking for suggestions
@ghdprentice has a point, but it all depends on what level you’re goal is and how well you like your current speakers.     When I purchased my Focal 836v speakers I was able to audition them on the Krell setup that was there for the Grande Uto...

I will echo the sentiment that a newer AVR would likely be your best upgrade.
Where does "MidFi" differ from "HiFi" or "LOFI"?
@grislybutter - A confusing post for a confusing topic I guess. I don’t know that I can clarify, but will try to add context.    I don’t personally think that a specific price point is a fair way to define what is MidFi vs. HiFi, but it’s always ...
Where does "MidFi" differ from "HiFi" or "LOFI"?
MidFi is almost a derogatory term relative to HiFi being an elitist term. There’s obviously never going to be a consensus on a definition. I don’t think price should be the primary factor. Is budget minded gear automatically excluded from being H...
Help. System sounds thin and bright or harsh
@cymivka - Have you ever had the sound you want using the Harbeth speakers?  If so, what I’m your system is different from that time? I feel like the speaker is the most significant factor in the overall sound of any system.
Worth upgrading my cables?
@dreas - I have have Blue Jeans Cable 10AWG speaker cables and have been very happy with them. Like you, I really like the ultrasonic welded connections.  I have not compared them anything “high end” but they seem to do pretty well.    I had BJC ...
Worth upgrading my cables?
@mastering92 - I’ll try to accurately describe the various changes.    My first real upgrade was using Mullard tubes in my Pathos amplifier.  The improvement almost defied logic because I got more detail and also a smoother presentation.  I actua...
Worth upgrading my cables?
@mastering92 - My audition process is far less robust than many. When I finally pull the trigger on a product that I think may improve my system I simply hook it up and see what it sounds like. If I hear an improvement that’s awesome, but I tend t...
Worth upgrading my cables?
If you’re curious about what differences/improvements you might get from better cables, I’d suggest that you pick one interconnect (maybe source to preamplifier) and try another Morrow Audio cable further up the line.  If you don’t like it or hear...
Non-Oversampling (NOS) vs,
@hgeifman - Check out some of the oversampling videos that Paul from PS Audio has. I found them informative.
Non-Oversampling (NOS) vs,
@analoguefan - Which Denafrips DAC do you have?  The Ares II is always oversampling even in NOS mode based on its measurements.
Solid core OFC vs stranded OCC copper
@auxinput - You really cannot attribute the difference in sound between the two cables to one being solid core and the other stranded when there was multiple other differences in design/configuration (e.g.multiple small conductors vs. one larger c...
