Review: Denafrips Ares II I'm aware of this issues and "cool" with it being mentioned on this thread. My favorite review was actually the one by Golden Sound. Just yesterday I rolled back to the first firmware upgrade (V1.6) because I found that the latest one resulted i...
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping? @barts - Please tell me that you also bi-wire in your tri-amp system. I’ve often pondered what the limit might be for a complex audio system. I would expect that the audiophiles with the most complex would also have the perspective that everythi...
Focal Aria 948 What amplifier do you have? I have not heard the Aria speakers, but love my Chorus 836v speakers. My local store sells Focal almost exclusively and they have always sounded the best to me connected to Krell. I have a Pathos Classic One Mkiii. ...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers @gregdude - Comparing how stereo speakers function to having two computer monitors that are setup so the mouse goes around the outside rather than across the middle is pure genius. You have made my day! p.s. You might see about getting into audi...
Crossing Left and Right Speakers @jimmy2615 - Your experience is a perfect example of "everything matters" and doesn't make any logical sense unless you assume that there are other unknown factors in play. Any difference in sound should be expected to result from variances in yo...
How cam Morrow Audio keep offering 45%-65% discounts for trade-ups? I have Morrow MA4 balanced interconnects and was very happy with the improved sound in my system. My comparisons are limited so I won't make any claims that they are the best cable ever. I picked them up the last Black Friday sale which put the ...
How Do Amps Affect Soundstage? Allow me to think out loud so to speak... Lower frequencies have longer sound waves and higher frequencies have shorter sound waves. This is why the location of tweeters is critical to the listening experience and subwoofers can be strategically...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? Could it be that the characteristic sound that drive the dislike for solid state amplifiers is most valid with the consumer level products and then becomes less and less of a factor the more thought and care is put into the designs? My experience...
Is simpler better? Simple does not automatically equate to less components. I prefer components that don't have a features/functions that I don't need. One of the reasons that I selected the Denafrips Ares II DAC that I have is because it is only a DAC. My Pathos...
When are speakers considered Hi-Fi and not Mid-Fi??? If I was to try and put a definition on low-fi vs mid-fi vs hi-fi I'd probably start with something like the following: low-fi: audio products focused on price point and features over sound quality. These types of products might top out as the m...
Ripping CD's to SSD? My setup isn't up to the full audiophile standard, but I continue to use iTunes (actually called Music now) and have it rip my Applelossless files to a NAS that can be accessed by my streamer. There may be a better way, but I also have a Tidal ac...
Speaker OHM's and AMP question You should be fine. An amplifier rated for 8 ohm speaker with 4 ohm speakers has potential to get too hot because the 4 ohm speakers can draw more power (maybe amperage is a more correct term?) than the amplifier can continuously produce.
Question about how analog audio recording works @maynovent - Your question is a difficult one to visualize and, I think, the seed for a lot of misunderstanding and even pseudoscience in the audiophile world. I’m far from an expert, but have spent quite a bit of time trying to make sense of thin...
Moving on a sailboat - bookshelf speakers? @jeffseight - What speakers are you referring to? I'm a GHA customer so am curious what they would offer for $1,000. I was thinking the Dragster or Speedster speakers, but both are quite a bit more expensive from what I've seen.
Center Channel Dialogue @elliottbnewcombjr - The primary reason that I suggested that the OP give 4.1 a try was for him to see if it made any significant change. It seems like something is off in the setup, so trying different things will sometimes provide good feedback... |
