How Do Amps Affect Soundstage?
Allow me to think out loud so to speak... Lower frequencies have longer sound waves and higher frequencies have shorter sound waves.  This is why the location of tweeters is critical to the listening experience and subwoofers can be strategically...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better?
Could it be that the characteristic sound that drive the dislike for solid state amplifiers is most valid with the consumer level products and then becomes less and less of a factor the more thought and care is put into the designs? My experience...
Is simpler better?
Simple does not automatically equate to less components.  I prefer components that don't have a features/functions that I don't need. One of the reasons that I selected the Denafrips Ares II DAC that I have is because it is only a DAC.  My Pathos...
When are speakers considered Hi-Fi and not Mid-Fi???
If I was to try and put a definition on low-fi vs mid-fi vs hi-fi I'd probably start with something like the following: low-fi: audio products focused on price point and features over sound quality.  These types of products might top out as the m...
Ripping CD's to SSD?
My setup isn't up to the full audiophile standard, but I continue to use iTunes (actually called Music now) and have it rip my Applelossless files to a NAS that can be accessed by my streamer. There may be a better way, but I also have a Tidal ac...
Speaker OHM's and AMP question
You should be fine. An amplifier rated for 8 ohm speaker with 4 ohm speakers has potential to get too hot because the 4 ohm speakers can draw more power (maybe amperage is a more correct term?) than the amplifier can continuously produce.
Question about how analog audio recording works
@maynovent - Your question is a difficult one to visualize and, I think, the seed for a lot of misunderstanding and even pseudoscience in the audiophile world. I’m far from an expert, but have spent quite a bit of time trying to make sense of thin...
Moving on a sailboat - bookshelf speakers?
@jeffseight - What speakers are you referring to?  I'm a GHA customer so am curious what they would offer for $1,000.  I was thinking the Dragster or Speedster speakers, but both are quite a bit more expensive from what I've seen.
Center Channel Dialogue
@elliottbnewcombjr - The primary reason that I suggested that the OP give 4.1 a try was for him to see if it made any significant change.  It seems like something is off in the setup, so trying different things will sometimes provide good feedback...
Center Channel Dialogue
@elliottbnewcombjr - Your AVR can take 5.1 and make it 4.1 without an issue just like it can take a 5.1 and make it stereo. I have always had a 4.1 setup. You simply have to make sure that the AVR is setup to not have a center channel.
Center Channel Dialogue
@elliottbnewcombjr - If the AVR has an auto setup with a microphone you just disconnect the center channel and run the setup.  It won't hear a center channel and will simply eliminate it from the processing and as a result split the signal into th...
Center Channel Dialogue
Have you tried eliminating the center channel all together and allowing the processor to ghost it back in?  I know my home theater setup is anything but idea, but I run a 4.1 setup and certainly have never had any issues with understanding dialogu...
Best way to A/B two different streamers
@ghdprentice - I tend to lean towards this approach. OP - You should have a sonic memory for the computer, so listen to the new streamer for a few days or weeks and see if you feel that something’s different.  Then go back and verify. If you can’...
Just Getting Back Into Audio and Need Help
I think "need" is almost never a factor.  Your challenge is to put together a system that you prefer over your past memories.  It sounds like one of your goals is to minimize the pieces of equipment. If you can find an integrated with a built in ...
Bluesound Node 2I Power Supply Update
@marco1 - I reached out to customer support and it sounds like there's been some variation in what cables they have been providing.  I got two cables and I think three of the connectors had the same slightly smaller size that matches the power sup...
