Why so few balanced phono inputs? Yes this is a BAL vs UNBAL conversation. Real quick ill just say BAL is for long cable runs, that's why you always see them used in professional stage gear. The balanced circuit is a more complex one and for home audio, depending on the engineer/d...
The most dynamic & transparent bookshelf Totem Acoustic Model ONE signatures!(totem has been producing this speaker for over 20 years) You want impact and bass and dynamics in a book self design? You will not be disappointed. Give them a look because they use a driver made by Dynaudio wi...
How important is a good rack? I bought a fairly tall Salamander Archtype 5 self rack (I don't like bending over to change a record). My turntable is ridged and sits on the top self with a iso platform underneath. This is a awesome entry level audio rack. It does not skip at al...
Toslink versus HDMI for two channel audio Toslink offers the most "jitter" of all digital links. That's why the upper end is sharp. I would guess that any improvement in a quality HDMI cable, would be a clear choice over toslink.
Planars/ Electrostats benefits over box speakers? I use to own a pair of Mirage M3's (Omnis)circa late 80's, that were very good at putting out a huge deep presentation, very detailed and dynamic with the McIntosh 300w/ch amp. I miss that sound, very wife un friendly though. I regretted the day I...
Mono Blocks for B&W 801 s3 " I once borrowed a 600 wpc McIntosh tube amp and it was superb". Are you sure that wasn't a Solid State amp? McIntosh makes some great sounding ones. I have not heard of a 600 watt per channel McIntosh tube design.
6922 tube selection What CJ Pre/amp combo do you have ?
Another UPS Horror Story Don't count on it ! that unit might spend the next few months being shipped back and forth. I have seen this with a pair of speakers!! If something shows up broke, you get it fixed and see if the seller will help with costs. But never ship the uni...
New source. I would buy a Oppo 105. This is the best deal in universal players. Stereophile class A rated for only $1199.00 , it does so many things I can't list them here. But one thing it does do is sound very accurate and clean with a tendency toward a bit...
Isolation platform - Gingko vs Mapleshade I use the Mapleshade 4" under my REGA P3/24 and I use the Iso Blocks that came with it, under each corner of the wood block. I don't use the brass footers at all. The REGA just sits directly on the wood platform with stock feet. I found this combi...
Is my preamp useless? That BAT preamp isn't adding anything in terms of beautiful tone or accurate highs. And at low volumes FORGET IT. I would get a AYRE preamp if you want to go Soild State. If you go tube I would switch from BAT to something a lot more engaging like...
Mono Blocks for B&W 801 s3 I would suggest highly you look at a McIntosh MC352. used (If you can find one) around $3500.00 This is the best sounding SS amp designed by Charlie Randall. It has 350 watts x 2 and will drive those B&W's beautifully. IMO.
Need recommendations.. Solo acoustic guitar CDs I 2nd! Best Acoustic Live guitar album is FRIDAY NIGHT IN SAN FRANSISCO LIVE by Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia. IMHO.
Amps under $5k that are resolving at low volumes? You said it. The Modwright sounds very good at low volume, very detailed. I would seriously consider a used Modwright SWL 9.0 SE w/tubed power supply( used $1500). Or you could check out Manley labs I love there Jumbo Shrimp preamp. You could then...
Nordost Tyr 2 Spkr Cables - Alternate for less $$ If you like the way Nordost sounds in your system, a great lower cost alternative would be to try some Morrow Audio cables (MA4's at least). These have worked wonders in my system, I still use Nordost SPM speaker cables.(I bought them sometime ago... |
