Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
The McIntosh MC352 (listed here on this site for $3,300) is a phenomenal deal in audio right now. This amp was designed by Charlie Randall and is one of the best sounding solid state amps they ever made, all these new MAC quad balanced amps are it...
Does it ever bother you
I was a music lover 1st and foremost, then the high end audio fan 2nd. I agree with you taters :-). It never ceases to amaze me at how eclectic some peoples musical tastes are, more so than the systems they play there odd selections on. I think th...
Cartridge Advice
Stick with the CA Ebony, because it will partner way better with your Krell electronics. IMO. The Clear Audio will sound very musical and not edgy or bright in anyway, while still sounding airy and open. Matt M                       P.S. Awesome t...
Blown speaker, stupid move?
Tweeters don't usually blow, they can handle very high power. Its the voice coil, that is most affected by clipped signals. Play something with some upper range piano music and if its distorted at med to high volume then you've blown them. If it s...
What's the greatest bargain in audio racks these days?
"Salamander Designs Archetype 5.0 is priced @, $499 " This $499 price is for the CHERRY WOOD FINISH. You can buy the Salamander Archetype 5.0 for $250!!!! in the Black finish. This IMO is the best deal in audio racks today.Matt M
ADCOM 555 II and DQ 10's
"Yamaha preamp may have played a part"   Thats exactly why when you turned it up it sounded harsh and tough to listen to! The ADCOM GFA 555 or 555 II is one of the smoothest sounding amps for the money. If you partner it with a good sounding pream...
Adcom GFA 5500 vs. Parasound A21
I really think your moving sideways. Treat yourself to something special when you want to really pull the trigger. Find out what people are using to drive the same speakers you have. Amps are very critical to speaker matching. Its really tough to ...
New TT -- $1k - $1500
If you take the leap to a REGA RP6 or even a RP3 with upgrades, you will find that the technics sounded THIN compared to the huge soudstage and fleshy images you will get with a REGA table and a EXACT/ Dynavector 10x5 cartridge. Any other table is...
Apartment Drama
See, you should have kept your system the way it was and %^&* the neighbor!!
Digital versus Vinyl - Grinnell College Review
I am happy knowing NO ONE cares about a article written from Grinnell College?? Also, I think you can find a lot of threads about this subject on this site. It is a very old topic, why are you even bringing up this six month old article anyway? O....
turntables
For your system the REGA RP6 would be awesome, but only with the EXACT cartridge. IMO. You don't need to spend $800 on a Ortofon when the Exact $600 will give you awesome, dynamic, lively sound. That REGA combo is a very satisfying setup. Regards,...
Tube preamp for under $3000
"The point is so many of these conclusions need to be taken in the context of the system."Point taken, I hear they sound a lot better partnered with their own amplifiers too.  I choose Manley Labs pre amp over BAT, Modwright, Mcintosh, Primaluna, ...
What vintage speaker might you use today
Find a pair of vintage JBL Century 100’s (circa early- mid seventies). These are hands down the winner in this post. IMO. Refurbished, these speakers will blow away most of these others mentioned, in terms of musicality, bass, liveliness, and enga...
New to Mit Cables
Not sure what sense it makes to use MIT's for speaker cables and a completely different brand/type of cable for the IC's? I would try MIT's for interconnects too to get full synergy. Although, I will say that I have listened to a lot of cables and...
Smooth Highs and Deep Bass
Try some MIT SHOTGUN cables, S1, S2, S3 line (awesome deal on used market). These cables tame bright sounding systems, period! And they sound tonally accurate and beautiful. Matt M
