Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
@Martykl - That's very helpful - thanks! Note, though, that I will be using a small subwoofer. Does that change your opinion at all? I am also worried about the wide dispersion of the Stradas reflecting too much in my room.
Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
Thanks, Dopogue. Also wondering if anyone has tried the Mapleshade floor mounts for the Stradas? They are supposed to be fantastic, but I have a hard time imagining how they would sound that low and whether they would be blocked by other furniture...
Gallo Stradas vs. Merlin TSM-MXRs
Would appreciate comments on which of these speakers will sound best in a highly reflective room. Or, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree with these speakers. I just saw a pair of Nuforce Reference S-9s on A'gon that also look interesting, althoug...
Is there an amp that does 2-channel and all this?
I can't speak to the Bryston, but I can assure you that the Arcam A38 most definitely will not blow the Arcam AVR 600 out of the water.
Amarra HiFi and 24/96 FLAC Files - Heads Up
Audivarna+ is great - if it works for you. It only works on 1 of my 2 Macs. Try the free trial.

I agree with Marty. In my system, anyway, bass management and Anthem Room Correction trumped HT bypass. But it completely depends on your room, speakers, etc.
Compare Between Few Dacs
I can't give you a comparison to the DACs you suggest, but I've been very happy with my Wadia 121 (around $1200) from my MacBook, direct into my Bel Canto amp. I would also give strong consideration to the Schiit Gungnir, which just came out a few...
I advise you all stick with smaller dogs
Kudus for rescuing dogs! We've had 4 fairly large dogs (65-85 pounds) - and 3 at one time for a while. None of them ever damaged any audio components. My kids, on the other hand . . .
Squeezebox+DAC or Linn DS
Before you do anything else, I recommend going to the Linn DS forum (http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/forumdisplay.php?fid=3) and reading up on people's software comments and solutions. It is a very active forum with knowledgeable posters. If you like ...
Older Anthem D2 or new Marantz?
I own an Anthem AVM 50v. As much as I like it, I'd go with the Marantz with the newer technology for $1,000 cheaper. The Marantz actually sounds very good and will be fine for HT use.
Here’s my $1750…just tell me what to buy..
I thought I posted this the other day, but it didn't work for some reason:Wyred4Sound Mini MC 5x220 Class D amp is $2,000 (slightly over your budget but a hell of an amp). I happen to like Class D amps - especially for HT. They run cool and have l...

Don't fret about the remote. You can always get a nice Logitech/Harmony remote to control your whole system. I've written about them in other threads. I still vote for the Arcam 600 over all of the other options.
Is there an amp that does 2-channel and all this?
I agree with the NAD and Anthem options. I'll also add the Arcam AVR600 into the mix. It retails for a bit more than your budget, but I just saw that there is a factory B stock on A-gon for exactly $4K. The internal amps are the best of any A/V re...
What's your favorite Apple-based music program?
I use Audivarna on my MacBook and Pure Music on my Mac Mini. I like Audivarna better in terms of ease of use, but it doesn't run on my Mini for some weird reason. They both sound excellent. I doubt I could tell them apart, although I've never done...
MacBook, old receiver, and external hard drives
Create a new iTunes library on 1 of your external hard drives. Move all of the music into that library (on that drive). Use the second drive as a backup, I guess. I use Audivarna+ on my MacBook and PureMusic on my Mac Mini for playback. Both are e...
